The K.A.S (Kerbal Attachment System) and its uses..
Hi folks. I got the great KAS mod for KSP and its got lots of things in it.. er, but I'm not entirely sure what to use it for. I was wondering if I could use something with it to remove orbiting debris? I know it can just be terminated but, thought it might be more exciting if I could grab it with a probe type vehicle and the de-orbit into the atmosphere.

Personally I only use the cargo containers, strut connectors, and pipe attachment points (deleted all the other parts) with the idea of some day building a ground base. And, of course, the cargo containers look cool as dammit. I often throw them onto larger craft to represent external food/water stowage and so forth.

And let us not forget the ability to remove small radial attachments while on EVA. That's helped me prune away some junk that ended up not being very useful, and was merely bloating the part count.

You could put a crane on a ship, and shoot the debris with the hook. Once attached, just drag it out of orbit.

Kas is great for rovers. Use it like a winch to pull your rover over obstacles, up hills, etc.

That too! Plus I managed to winch up a rover that had fallen over, but not broken (it was very tall).

O MAKE SURE you hit F5 after EVERY connection you make with the pipes or the struts, they have a tendancy to every so often destroy your ship/base/whatever your building

I just got started on the KAS mod but already love it. It's so well polished and works 100% as advertised. Here's my helicopter that uses KAS to retrieve splashed down pods:

As for deorbiting. I've only made one deorbiting ship because there's no real need other than for fun (you can just kill the ship in space) The ship used landing legs in the front of it to 'grab' things I wanted to do-orbit. Then just a matter of keeping the object I wanted to do-orbit held firm inside the claw like front of the ship and retrofiring back down.

De-orbiting a wrecked shuttle:

Heck, with enough patience you could de-orbit something by pushing it with a kerbal on EVA.

Someone actually used the search feature....... stunned.

go to ksp forums section for KAS here

read the last severel pages it pretty much works with minor workarounds.

The creator plans to fold everything into KIS and make that the mod to get, BTW KIS adds some really cool stuff too, Kerbal have invetories and can carry stuff around in their giant space pockets.

"Wow Jeb you are REALLY happy to see Valentina aren't you???"

"No Bob, that's just a girder in my pocket."

KIS imo is usable in it's current iteration, you just cant use the pipes and junk from KAS, but attach/detach parts are still in
