If anyone has any designs please share.

so, you need a lander, or a whole vehicle to travel from kerbin to Duna and land? The lander itself is realy a smal problem. ;)

The best way I found (for long trips) is to break things down a bit. Make a rocket that takes the landing stage into Kerbin orbit. Then make another rocket that takes the tug (the part that will take the lander to and from) into orbit. Dock the tug with the lander and go to Duna. I see a lot of massive rockets that try to take the tug and lander in one go. If you’re not that great with rockets it’s easier to break it up into two launches.

I just want to know how much fuel does it take to land/get back to orbit on Duna. I currently have no idea on just the amount of fuel I need for a lander/get back to SPACE vehicle. I personally have a 2 ship mission waiting at my fuel station to go explore those issues. ONce Duna gets its happy butt in a nice spot. Messing around with a new C glass satelite for Kerbin while I wait. Or I guess I could time X. Oh what fun is that.

I had the same question a few days ago. I made a trial and error mission with this Lander:

After the landing and reorbiting, there was araound 50% fuel left. Sorry that i have no real numbers.but the lander is stock parts only, so you could rebuild something usefull out of it.

Duna is not that hard. a Mun-Lander with some extra fuel can do it. Use parachutes for the landing.

Here's some of my favourite designs. You've got an atomic engine ferry in the middle there, a disposable auxiliary fuel tank on the right, and a container of 3 disposable rovers with a lander on the left.

landing is easy, add 3 times as much chutes as you would for the same thing to land on kerbin.

taking off: take half as much fuel and rocket power as you would on kerbin.

actually, a ship that can land on the mun and return home from low kerbin orbit can also launch from duna if you double the thrust.
ok, you need a seperate return stage, but that bit is easy.
