Parts not appearing for SCANsat mod
I recently tried downloading the SCANsat mod (compatable with 1.0.5 it says) from the following link :

https://kerbalstuff.com/mod/249/SCANsat#top-1a-installation

And after unzipping the file into the GameData folder found under
Local Disk>ProgramFiles(x86)>Steam>Steamapps>common>KSP>GameData

I assumed that this is all I needed to do, but this being the first mod I have downloaded for the game, perhaps I did something wrong when unzipping it. The problem I am running into is that I cannot find where the parts are in the assembly menu (I have looked everywhere!!!!!!), yet I know the mod is in the game because on the KSC screen in the top right corner I can click on a button to show the terrain mapping for Kerbin. Of course it is blank because I cannot find the parts to scan a planet.

Please let me know if there is a solution to this or if my game is broken lol.

Thanks!

Are you playing sandbox or career? If sandbox, they are located either under "utility" or "science." I can't remember which. If you're playing career you have to unlock them first on the techtree.

Make sure you have...

KSP > GameData > SCANsat

and not...

KSP > GameData > GameData >SCANsat

Hey thanks for responding! I moved the file to your specifications and that fixed 50% of my problem. The SCANsat map button/function used to be all glitchy and showing weird colors, but now it seems operational. However, the parts are still not there :( im assuming the m700 survey scanner does not work with this. Let me know if you want a screenshot of the scansat file or something, im not sure how to tell if the parts are in the file.

Sorry, got distracted and forgot to post back...so, inside the SCANsat folder you should have 7 more folders, one of which should be named "parts". In there should be five folders with various name that reflect the different sat components.

Provided all you did initially was have two layers of GameData folder and you moved SCANsat up one level, it should all still be in place and work.

I'll install the mod and see where they appear in the editor parts list but my hunch would be under science.

Edit: Actually, having done that I think I know what your next problem is...You need this installed I think...

Scroll down and grab the .dll file from the downloads section. Place it directly in your GameData folder.

Edit 2: Almost forgot, yes, SCANsat parts are listed under the "science" tab in the editor.

Hey! I appreciate the help, dont worry about the delayed response! I double checked and I have the correct amount of folders: a set of 7 and a set of 5 folders.
So then I grabbed that .dll titled "ModuleManager.2.6.13.dll" (Thats the one right?) and unfortunately that didnt change anything. I put it directly into my GameData folder, so it appeared with the SCANsat and Squad folder, but there was no change except on starting the game it said something like "Module Manager 5" under the loading bar. However still no parts :(

Thanks so much for your patience! But perhaps theres another file to download for this to work?

I also saw under the module manager.dll file there was a .zip file. Maybe I need that?

No more files needed. Ok, I looked at the files and module manager is only needed to make other parts integrate with SCANsat (EDIT: and SCANsat integrate with RPM but lets not go there yet), so at least now, your stock scanners will do that.

If you are playing a career game, like mentioned in the first reply, these parts will not appear in your parts selection until you unlock their tech tree node.

Start a new Sandbox save if you are playing career and click on the science tab when in the VAB or SPH. You should see the SCANsat parts in there. Another way to find them is by filtering with by module. One of the question mark symbols should house SCANsat parts.

Edit: No, the zip file is the same thing, just in a zip archive.

Ok so I am in a new sandbox game and I am in the VAB, I clicked filter by module, and one of the question marks is titled "SCANresource scanner" the two parts that appear are called "M4435 Narrowband Scanner" and "M700 Survey Scanner" Are these the correct parts?
Manwith Noname Nov 17, 2015 @ 7:54pm
No, they are the vanilla parts that have been modified by module manager and SCANsat, the question mark below that should be the SCANsat parts.
DJ Tanner Nov 17, 2015 @ 8:05pm
I looked again and there's still no sign of the mod parts. Im convinced theres something wrong with my game lol because I can select the scan sat flag as my flag pattern, the map can be viewed, and if I look closely upon loading the game I can see the SCANsat parts being loaded but they arent there! I really appreciate your help, and I hope you arent losing patience lol.

Ill look one more time, but let me know if there's any other trick you have up you sleeve!
Thanks!

Also, I tried another mod just in case my game wont work with mods for some reason, but I tried the interstellar mod and that worked fine.

At this point I would go to your GameData folder and delete the SCANsat folder in there. Now go find your zip archive for that mod and browse into it, through the GameData folder until you see the SCANsat folder, drag that SCANsat folder into your KSP > GameData folder.

Edit: Actually, do you still have the second GameData folder within your GameData folder? Is there still any remnants from when you first tried to install SCANsat? Delete those if there is.

Omg it worked thank you so much!! I think I might have found my error by the way, but youll probably think Im dumb. What happened was I unzipped the "GameData" or "GameFile" whichever its called, and not the folder within called "SCANsat".

Either way its working and I appreciate your time!

And the Module Manager lets it work with RPM and Mechjeb and stuff?
Manwith Noname Nov 17, 2015 @ 8:24pm
You'll need module manager for many many things if you plan to add more mods to the game. In this case, it modifies some vanilla parts to integrate them with SCANsat and makes it possible to view SCANsat maps in IVA on MFD's if you have RPM installed.

All those acronyms...

The thing to be aware of here is you only ever want the latest module manager at the root level of your GameData directory. Some mods will try to replace it depending on how you unzip them and some mods may have it located within their own folder, though I hope this has become a thing of the past and modders have learned not to do this.

Mechjeb is a completely seperate thing (autopilot) and has no integration with SCANsat in either direction as far as I am aware but I have never used it.

Happy scanning by the way.

Alright well thanks again! Im already scanning Kerbin as we speak :)
