Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program

Ryzen 9 7950X3D Or Intel i9 14900K?
I know this is a CPU based game, so I'm not sure if the X3D's title of best gaming GPU will make this stand out, or if Intel's specs are misleading? I know the Intel chips have been having a bit of an issue lately, but do you think Intel won't have fixed this issue soon enough?

look for fewer more powerful cores for this game

Eight zen 3 or zen 4 cores (or even zen1 or zen2 cores) is way than more enough for years to come. GPU choice will matter much more as far as the resolutions you'll be playing at and the graphics quality you choose. Kerbal 1 is really undemanding, and quite playable under 5+ year old A-series budget processor running via the R5/R7 integrated GPU at lower resolution lower detail settings.

Are you sure you are posting in the correct game forum ?
This game is ancient and runs fine on anything.

I was gonna say, for this (and most games) there is no need to use the power sink that is an i9. the i9 is more useful for visual rendering (like animation and stuff) and other heavy number crunching, it doesn't get a significant performance boost over the equivalent i7 (certainly not worth the price mark-up) and I even dropped down to an i5 when I built this machine (i5 13500)

You'd be surprised what bunch of mods and massive builds can do for even semi competent machines with this game..

There's no such thing as "too good pc for KSP" just like minecraft

Intel generally have better single core speeds but run hotter, use more power and are often (not always) more expensive.

The 7950X3D, has the 3D Cache and generally is comparable or better in most benchmarks and games. If you can get it for a similar or lower price, I'd suggest the 7950X3D.
Especially with Intel's actions recently in not informing customers of permanent damage to their 13th gen CPU's until the media started uncovering it first.

From my experience playing ksp, i would say go for any cpu that can turbo high on 1-2 core's, i have played kerbal on multiple cpu's from 6 core to 16 core's, also on same generation, but it just not programed to use more then a few core's,

Any yea if you run moded kerbal or maybe even on stock, it can still lag when building big space stations, or multidock stages.

Here is a good list, to give you a idea about single core turbo on cpu's that can help well on deciding what cpu to take if you just need a few fast core's.
