You can remove all locks.
I had some issues where the x on the node wouldn't work but the x by the navball will.
which requires knowing how to play the game.. basically dont make bad decisions when you can let everyone else's youtube video (or forum posts) show you the mistakes to avoid by learning from their mistakes before you do yours.
p.s. I agree with what other players posted about the antennas, since the antenna you installed that doesnt work at long range or behind the mun, or the antenna you didnt install but should have, is usually the issue as well as accepting a mission that takes you to the dark side of the mun or really far away before you have the proper antenna and relay setup in the first place.
If you didn't build space for as many kerbals as you need or are traveling beyond where your antennas can reach, then your problem is between your keyboard and your chair. It's not a problem with the game.
