Kerbal Space Program

CONTROL LOCKED has to GO!
Nodes often can not be deleted, even nodes I haven't reached or already passed. I just want to friggen' make them go away - remove that damned control locked. I don't want a work around - make the X work!

Just turn it off... Or switch the difficulty options when you go out of antenna range so you can get back in control, get rid of the nodes, and turn control lock back on.

Alt F12 menu

You can remove all locks.

Also if you are having issues with the x on the map screen you can try the small x to the right of the navball.

I had some issues where the x on the node wouldn't work but the x by the navball will.

The inability to remove a maneuver node is often a sign you've limited control over your probe--you lack a strong signal between your unmanned ship and KSC. Having crew aboard, or a sufficient antenna and/or relay network ensures you maintain control.

on some missions this is not possible, ie, a mission where there is only room for a scientist kerbal, and you havent unlocked powerful enough antennas. the issue is that they just want to delete nodes, and you can actually delete them if you reload the save and then hit the x, but reloading is annoying

The real issue is understanding how to not to get 'control-locked' in the first place, and all the extra work you then need to put in to study and learn workarounds and cheats.. might as well learn the right way from the beginning..

which requires knowing how to play the game.. basically dont make bad decisions when you can let everyone else's youtube video (or forum posts) show you the mistakes to avoid by learning from their mistakes before you do yours.

p.s. I agree with what other players posted about the antennas, since the antenna you installed that doesnt work at long range or behind the mun, or the antenna you didnt install but should have, is usually the issue as well as accepting a mission that takes you to the dark side of the mun or really far away before you have the proper antenna and relay setup in the first place.

If you didn't build space for as many kerbals as you need or are traveling beyond where your antennas can reach, then your problem is between your keyboard and your chair. It's not a problem with the game.
