game not opening

when i click the play button it changes to stop like the game launched however nothing opens and after a couple seconds it changes back to play how do i fix this i've already tried validating the files (nothing came up) restarting my computer and reinstalling the game but nothing seems to fix it any help would be appreciated

Have you been able to play before or is this your first start of KSP ever?

There's the launcher which might be blocked by security system because of internet connection or something like this.
You could always try and go to the installation folder to start KSP directly.

so on my laptop it works fine and i figured out that if i open the local files and then launch directly by running "KSP_x64.exe" then the game launches fine its only if i launch it using steam that it messes up

Technically you are only supposed to have it on one machine?

Could the new launcher be in some DRM mode not allowing you to play unless you bypass it?

Seems odd but the only reason I can think of. I mean other than not being able to log into the mothership of KSP on their launcher... but that would be an issue on both if that was a failure of the mothership.

There are a number of ways to bypass the launcher and even use steam.

Try using the Steam trick for getting around the New Launcher in KSP 1.12.4. You see that makes steam open the KSP_x64.exe file instead of the (now) normal method of opening the PD Launcher, which steams to be the issue.
