set your target and do "control from here" on your vessel's port , and you can stare at the nav ball the entire time.. RCS in the direction you need to keep your prograde on the target . I do it with SAS on, but don't lock on prograde or target .. allow prograge to drift off the target and respond with the RCS.
you can easily come in head-on that way, but also can setup trickier stuff, like sliding in from the side..
that said, I'm not against a docking cam, but you should be looking at the nav ball, imo :)

The first video on that page is a quick rundown of what the mod does and how you use it. And uh, that's...really all there is. It's a simple and small mod but it makes docking so much easier once you get the hang of it. No need to fiddle with camera angles.
Not everyone likes to play with mods. There are alot of people out there who want to play vanilla only. I am one of these. It's a curse, I know.

Squad also did include some mods, and hired some modders to do this. They also did get some complaints e.g. for "wasting time" on planes, with people going It's called Space program, I care only about rockets, they should focus on that.
To not look like I'm just trolling, what I'm saying is: You say you want to play vanilla, but vanilla has no docking cam. Just as it has no detailed info on delta-v or other stuff that goes more into "in-depth simulation" territory. That's what mod support is for, and in my opinion there's not much sense in including extras when there's perfectly fine mods for that. Especially not now when they still have their hands full with getting everything into the shape they want it to be.
