What do the Computer Flight Unit and Engineering System do?
I could swear I've never seen these two items before, but went to build a rocket and there they are in the science tab. I install Kerbal Engineer mod. Is it from that?

I'm guessing the mod added them. Don't see them on the wiki. At any rate anyone know what they do? Not a real good in game description. They look like storage devices, but not sure what you need them for.

it from the Kerbal Engineer mod. If you slap 1 of them on your vessel, you can track it's systems and see a lot of informations on a HUD...like Apoapsis height, time to periapsis etc...

Yes they are from Kerbin Engineer Redux (KER). You need to attach one of those to your craft so you have access to KER during the flight. It doesn't matter which one of them you use, they have the same use, only different cosmetics.

You ADD them to a ship to get the KER (Kerbal Engineer Redux) displays during flight.

NOTE: In VAB/SPH you can access the KER options and select PARTLESS, so that you don't have to add these to a ship. (Part count)

In order to use Kerbal engineer mid-flight in career mode, you either must have an engineer on board or one of these parts.

Considering this was 3 to 4 years ago; I assume they've figured it out by now lol.

How did you even find this ancient thread to dig up?

It worked out for me because since this is all ever evolving I wonder if I STILL need to add the part to get all the add-on features.

Go to the settings and change the option that is highlighted career to partless and the mod works without having to add those included parts to yer rocket.

Edit: Sweet, four year old topic and I come in and answer my own question. lol

Once your tracking station is level 3, you no longer needs the parts also.

And I see I answered it 4 years ago in this thread, but now still learned that you can turn this off apparently. I never bothered to check the settings but was always annoyed that you have to attach a stupid item to the rocket to make it work.

For what it's worth, I just sought (and found) this information today - and by the point I'd read the whole thread, I understood why I didn't need these parts (lvl 3 tracking station). Thanks for the info everyone!
