HELP! Is it possible to have NO areas to mine on Gilly?
So I have an interplanetary SSTO with a course for Moho. Stopped by Gilly to refuel. I have a scanner in polar orbit. I have a surface scanner on the landed SSTO. I am unable to find any ore concentration above 2.5% in order to mine. On top of that, in the largest area which should have ore I have found none. Yes I did try other areas on Gilly and yes I did move quite a lot in that large area I am in the screenshots.

Ore maps are procedurally generated. So it's not implausible.

So if I want to use Gilly as a refueling station I am screwed in this save?

Yep, unless you are willing to work with such a low concentration.

The problem with low concentration is that it will not allow me to mine at all. Is there a setting to allow me to mine very low concentrations?

you need to use M4435 Narrow-Band Scanner to find high ore concentration spots
M700 Survey Scanner is for reference only and I only use it as a prerequisite for M4435 nowadays due to the fact high ore concentration spots can virtually be found anywhere, regardless of M700 dispayed concentration
so just carry a rover with M4435 and send it to the pole, then drive around to locate high concentration, then use the rover as a landing beacon

It really helps to have all three resource scanners.
  • Only the Surface Scanning Module can Run Analysis. Until you do that, the ore concentration within a biome will appear uniform to the other scanners. Once analyzed, you can find the real ore concentrations.
  • The M700 Survey Scanner lets you see ore concentrations thoughout the planet--sorta. See above.
  • The M4435 Narrow-Band Scanner shows you a map around your craft, which is great for rovers. But you can't see it until you have the M700 survey, and biomes will appear uniform until the Surface Scanning Module has analyzed the biome.

I decided to make a small satellite and launch it with a narrow band scanner to Gilly. No ore above 2.5% detected. So the Mk2 SSTO to Moho program with Gilly refuel is a bust. My Mk3 SSTO is so disgustingly big that it lags the game like crazy.

You can mod a bit to get atmospheric scoops and dip into Eve's atmosphere for refeuling.

It is possible that there is a spot on your Gilly that does have 2.5% ore or higher, even if the average throughout your available biomes is below that. But to see those variations, you need to run an analysis with a surface scanning module.
