Fairings - EVA bug?
I found something I'd not seen before. In completely stock game, after trying to find a broken mod, my stock fairings do something weird. If I go EVA, my guy won't get back into the ship. Is this a known bug? I did a search for it, but the Steam search sucks. No obvous answers.

I even uninstalled and deleted the game, then reinstalled to base game. Same results.

I've exparemented and learned that EVA works with the fairings still on the ship. But for some reason, it breaks boarding the ship after fairings are deployed. My kerbal can't get back in, or become active again.

No, I blew the fairings. Won't let you EVA with fairings in the way. Actually, it seems to be the fairing debris itself. On launch pad, I blew the fairings and EVA'ed. Couldn't board. Repeated, but first went back into the space center then returned to the ship. Now can EVA without fail.

As for fairings, I use them on the moon shots, with the lader module turned around to face the pod. I guess I can try launching without fairings and seeing how it affects aerodynamics. A little realism breaking, but...oh well. The problem seems to be fixable by returning to the space center and then going back to the ship. Guess it deletes the ejected fairings.

docking port to docking port, lander can, fuel, engine, science parts. Mostly works very much like the Apollo design, except it starts attached to the nose of the ship.

Known bug. Get the Stock Bug Fix mod to alleviate it in the meantime.

@Roof, been there. Don't assume long term guys can't make noob mistakes. Pulled my hair out once when engines stopped working on powered landing. Found out my landing gear was clipping through the engine, canceling thrust.
No, this has been my long term method of using a lander. Either I just always had exited the ship before doing an EVA, or it was an update that created a bug.

@Dennis Didn't know, or remember there was a bug fix mod. I'll try it. In any case, the fix here is return to the space center and it removes the fairings from the game. Clears the bug.

@Roof. Launch pad, in space, it didn't matter. If the fairings debris was still loaded, couldn't board the ship. Even if jetisoned in sub Kerbin orbit, and then EVA in orbit of Mun.

I kind off want to use that thing and the same time can't help but wonder - what will happen to that mod when the version 1.2 comes out and let's hope finally after few months waiting time solves at least some well known bugs in stock game without introducing too many new - will that mod vanish by itself, conflict, double repair... any ideas?
Based on past experience, a) all of the mod's bugfixes get included in stock and b) the next version will come out. I didn't have much problems getting my saves over to 1.1.

Just experimented without fairings, using a nose cone. I actually do get an advantage to fairings. Probably because I minimize it, and put as much of the caplule junk within as possible.
