"Remember that the lab isn't a command pod, so you can't do anything without a command pod (with a third kerbal in it) or probe core (and then you can't do anything when the power runs out.)"
But basically, I think: you can't do anything in KSP without a Command Pod/Probe Module.
Although, this scenario never crossed my mind. I had a Pod on my first lab, and since then, I fly almost everything unmanned...it's just easier/lighter to make the crafts, lol.
I'm not advance enough into science to do that, so I have to do it the manned way. Thanks for the link, quite annoyed about that. I guess I will have to do the same mission again but with the command pod it needed. Unless there is a way to change a fuel tank into a command pod through text file...
My first(and only) MPL is still out there(over 30years, hope they brought some snacks...), 1pilot, 2scientists, basic 4 instruments...and it alone on Minimus, has unlocked my entire science tree by Biome-hopping short distances for new science, after I drain every experiment I can. (thruster-tap off the ground also counts as 'space around minimus' good for science missions fyi)
