Mobile Processing Lab, no options to use it?
So my mission was to carry a mobile processing lab with two scienists on an one way trip to mun, along with a main crew taking them there and return to Kerbal without the scienists and the lab. The mission was a success however I ran into a problem with the mobile lab itself...

The lab doesn't give any options to put data in it or do research, I can't seem to do lots of stuff with it.

Nothing was said about the lab needed a command pod to use it, I was able to use it while the main crew pod was still attached to the lab. But I detached it so the main crew can return to Kerbal, leaving the lab without any command pod. It is annoying having to return to the lab only to find it cannot research.

Does anybody know a mod to make the lab a command pod or know any solutions to this?

I found this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/107714-care-and-feeding-of-your-mpl-lg-2-mobile-processing-lab-in-10-how-to-be-a-science-farmer/

"Remember that the lab isn't a command pod, so you can't do anything without a command pod (with a third kerbal in it) or probe core (and then you can't do anything when the power runs out.)"

But basically, I think: you can't do anything in KSP without a Command Pod/Probe Module.

Although, this scenario never crossed my mind. I had a Pod on my first lab, and since then, I fly almost everything unmanned...it's just easier/lighter to make the crafts, lol.

I'm not advance enough into science to do that, so I have to do it the manned way. Thanks for the link, quite annoyed about that. I guess I will have to do the same mission again but with the command pod it needed. Unless there is a way to change a fuel tank into a command pod through text file...

As far as Science goes, I recall the first HECS unit is quite good, if you can make it that far. pending where you are, I'd suggest getting the first 3-4 science tools before tho, throw them on your next MPL, and stockpile Data.... and Fast Foward time, if you need more Science to unlock parts for your missions. :D

My first(and only) MPL is still out there(over 30years, hope they brought some snacks...), 1pilot, 2scientists, basic 4 instruments...and it alone on Minimus, has unlocked my entire science tree by Biome-hopping short distances for new science, after I drain every experiment I can. (thruster-tap off the ground also counts as 'space around minimus' good for science missions fyi)
