[USI-Kolonization] How do you build your bases?
I am playing KSP since 0.14, got thousands of hours played, and hundreds of kerbins death because of me unexpected events.

I am playing a modded game, mainly mods from Umbra Space Industries : Kolonization, Karbonite and Life Support.

I would like to know how people are planning their bases using these mods, in order to optimize my ships and launches.

On my side, I am building first a karbonite drilling ground base to be able to refuel easily other ships that have to land there. After that, I am focusing on supplies manufacturing, but that needs a heavy installation. At the moment, I am sending 3 ships, 2 that will be the extractors/cultivators, and one drill/cargo for water supply, all ships/bases are weighting more than 100t, that's why i can't send only one ship to do the job.

The first one got drills, power supply (nuclear generator) and some storage
The second one got regolith sifter to refine raw materials, aeroponics/greenhouse modules and some habitats
The last one only got a huge water container and water drills, and should be able to move from water extraction site to the farming base.

The objective is to be able to resupply other ships, I am testing mostly on Mün, where it's not so useful, but it's easier for testing purposes.

After that, i am building other extractors, ore refining and rocket parts maker for an extra planetary launchpad.

What about you? I am looking for ideas to improve farming/supplies manufacturers because modules are so heavy that they are very difficult to use on interplanetary travels because of DV available. How much drills? Containers? Ideas to be able to remove engines after landing drills and farming modules? How much habitats? I am often disturbed by kerbin homesickness, how do you deal with that?

Screenshots of your bases will be greatly appreciated.

Uh I'll sub to this! Well I never built a base, because everytime I read the instructions I think "well... screw this it's way too complicated". But I'd like to see some bases and gather some intel.:KOh:

I prefer planetary base systems (KPBS). With nuclear reactors from "near future"

I typically design them as a series of Rovers that are fit-tested in the grass near the KSC..
I haven't done one in a while, but here's a few screens:

the base goals are always just self sustainability, using KPBS, TAC-LS, NearFuture.. occasionally this has meant driving to another biome to full up on water

Ty very much Operation40, that's exactly what I am looking for.

Never tried KPSB, but i'll definitely have a look at this mod, though I want to stay on the vanilla context, and would like to avoid using futuristic stuff like fusion reactors or higher. But the design is great. Do KPSB and TAC-LS fit well together? I used to play with TAC-LS, though I found pretty hard to maintain a colony far from Kerbin with it. It was a long time ago, so i perhaps should have a look at it now.

Can you produce food and other stuff from TAC-LS with KPSB? What resources are used?

Your skylift design is very interesting too, I think i will rework my design to use more skylift in order to lower the parts count at ground bases.

I have started another career (money is also an important parameters, as well as casualties^^), i will try to post my own bases when i have set up them.

Other ideas?

yep, KPBS has algea farm (uses ore) and Greenhouse to produce food. it also has a water drill and sabatiers / recyclers that work with TAC-LS and most other LS mods..

Hard to see, but here's an old base from when I was making them with USI parts -- you can see I still went with rover type designs - linked with claws

The USI base parts are huge compared to what KPBS has but they're both really cool..

Here comes a troll post. I dont build bases they are not needed. I land ships, then they take off and leave. Muuahahahahahahahaa. :)
