Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program

LArge Ships Flex, harmonic ocilation
In the begining - like 3-4 years ago, a long large ship would remain rather ridgid. Then there was a change and they got rubbery.

Is there a way to make ships more ridgid? I have not played for almost 2 years, hoping this would be fixed - but after an hour today I see its not.

turn on advanced tweakables and use Autostruts, or use actual eas4 struts and make that ship solid again.

there is nothing to fix. All materials and constructions are bending - both in real life and KSP. We could discuss if every part is 100% accurate and which material it is made from, but that's not the point. This is also a game in a specific universe. Not a perfect reality copy.

Your task is to design ships rigid. Engineer them in the right way.

Last i checked, the only thing that limits a engineer is the creativity of their mind, there is no "right" way when it comes to creating ♥♥♥♥.

For op, yes using autostrut, it will make a world of difference, but its buggy, thats why its not on by default, but if you use it sparingly and dont use the heaviest mass option, it will make a huge difference, the best part, it doenst count toward part count like the actual strut item does.

you are so wrong, dude. Have you seen bridges built with AA batteries as connecting elements in real life? Then why would you connect 200t ships with slim tubes or elements not designed for that size and mass?
Think about Eiffel tower when building your ships from risky parts, that might help - create a frame that can distribute load. Keep soft parts radial so sturdy core is not compromised. Focus mass in one spot. Keep engines and steering (external forces) close to that mass. etc.

That's called engineering.

Be frugal with autostruts. However, when you enable advanced tweakables, you can activate 'rigid attachment' which eliminates much of the wobbling.

Why aren't you guys telling this poster the simplest, most direct address to this issue?

Say what you want Sammy the snake's on an adventure whether you're with him or not

Note to self; full tanks sink
Current status of adventure: unfulfilling

*Face palm*

That's so stupid.

Yet, I laughed so hard. xD

Mission update: We've learnt to 'sway' but slithering is elusive at the minute.
https://streamable.com/pz6yh
Current speed: 0m/s
Destination: Doesn't matter
Potential fix: more SAS modules, longer noodly body, extremely powerful SAS cluster in the middle?
KER Report: 658m/s d/V
Engineer report: Waste of budgeting
Current status of adventure: disappointing - borderline failure

To be honest it was sillier launching from the launchpad, but I refuse to use the strip now.

Lmao, one of the craziest things I've ever seen in KSP.

Mission Update: Sent Sammy to space to gather important science. (skip to orbital video) launch video is just proving Sammy is space capable and I don't cheat like Chibbity
Current Status of adventure: Perfect orbit
# of Science experiments: 1
Result of experiment: I'm in sandbox the science doesn't work.
Conclusion: oops
Launch video: https://streamable.com/nat5g
Orbital video: https://streamable.com/um7pl

Final eval: slithering is definitely a thing in space.

would slithering through kerbin's atmpsphere at mach 3 work?
