There is however an "ultimate" contract that you could consider to be the completetion of the career if you wanted.
It basically entails landing on every planet with the same ship in one go.

Good grief! Has anyone ever completed it? If so, They had to use refueling. No way you could carry enough fuel even assembled in Orbit.
No, there is no mission limit.
You will always get more randomized contracts, even after completing the ultimate challenge.
That contract is just the hardest one, so once you've done it...you've pretty much beat the hardest challenge in the game.
Mining is probably the easiest one.
Then you could use multiple tugships for the main upper stage. It doesn't even have to be manned. Attach same small probe on LKO to ships going to other places with all kind of contracts for example and keep it in space until all is finished.
And you can even do it without any refuelling - launch a ship consisting of multiple smaller ones which each do their own targets. Split them on orbit. Designing and planing that is quite a challenge though. They will all have the same launch ID and could eventually count for completion. Like some ore transfer tricks do. The way game awards completion flags to parts of the contracts isn't as accurate as you would guess.
I did it with original 4 on a mining SSTO mothership - kind of victory lap even before I got that contract. The thing is - to get this contract, you have to do at least a few sequential jumps first afaik. Otherwise game doesn't know you are capable of this. The only problem with that - Eve launch will require you to ruin most part of your nice ship. So I would still rather use cheaper dedicated lander for Eve because of business and sentimental perspective (putting the whole craft in "museum").
It is not that hard once you have visited all bodies already. Just a continuous trip through all of them. I actually did it before going to Eeloo or Moho or landing on some less attractive Jool moons. Once you know how, it's just about execution and doing it in the right order. Like having cheap Vall landing between taxing Laythe and Tylo. That way you always have enough fuel for landing. Hard-easy-hard-easy-medium-medium...
Moving class E asteroids to arbitrary locations is no trivial matter, while rescuing Kerbals from relatively low inclined, polar or even retrograde solar orbits makes you wonder just how in the hell they could have got there in the first place, or, worse still, hauling a few thousand tonnes of ore from the surface of Eve to Gilly.
Low solar rescue contracts on the other hand can be done. Using 22ooo delta v ships. Even within the also quite short budget. "Rise to dive", use Eve/Jool gravity, extreme engineered nuke ships or the very simple Xenon solutions. And then you could also get asteroid down there with nuclear tugship. Still I consider low solar rescues (engineering part) on par with manned Eve launch - the other hardest singular challenge. Don't know anything as hard as those two.
As for E class asteroid contracts, those are actually very simple. And quite profitable. They just take multiple hours of real time to complete. Which means you could make much more money with other projects. So rather avoid.
