I think by default it's on low or medium, should be more noticable if your crank it up to high.
Keep in mind it only adds very soft colored lighting to the side of the ship facing the planet while in space. You can toggle it on/off in the settings; you'll notice the difference side by side in real time.
I got a message while loading that said allow updates, which I did.
Then I got a message saying unsupported version, use 1.2
That's EVE. (I know, all these naming conventions are confusing lol.)

As far as Planetshine; you can ignore the compatibility warning, it works in 1.3.1, you might have to be "in-flight" to see the button though.
Debug menu yourself into orbit, and toggle it on/off.
Like I said it's a rather subtle effect, just a soft blue (At Kerbin anyways) lighting on the underside of the ship.
Anyway, what I'm looking for is more realistic looking planets. I see a link from that EVE page to 'stock visual terrain'. Will that do it?
Stock visual terrain is for higher res planet textures I think.
If you want a more realistic look for planets in general, EVE and all the recommended mods on it's page is a nice package.
Press Alt+F12 to open the debug menu, open the orbit tab, select Kerbin from the list, and hit "set orbit." Boom, you are in space!
What do I do?
Just replace it, readme's aren't important.
Also they both extract with their own example "Gamedata" folder, you don't want that, you know what I mean?
I deleted everything I could find, and I stopped getting the message. game loaded fine.
