Kerbal Space Program

Steam keeps installing my old mods
I had some mods, I tried to update them, it didn't work for some reason, the game was crashing. I checked the files, it reinstalled the old ones, I reinstalled the game, both with and without the steam cloud activated, it did the same. I beleve the crashes are caused by an old file somewhere outside GameFiles, and can't find a way to make Steam stopping that. Im fed up, I hate this, I just want to go to Laythe. Pls help.

When you uninstall the game from Steam it only removes the files it put there during install. Your mods won't be removed. Delete the entire KSP folder and then reinstall for a fresh install.

Edit: Make sure you move your saved game files before deleting the entire folder. You can move them back afterward.

Have Steam uninstall KSP.
Then go in where KSP was and manually empty out the folder.

Steam will only touch what it put in (and your saved games).
Any mods will have to be manually removed.
The cloud should only back up your saved games and ships.

Also, don't use steam for anything mod related, use CKAN instead.

Here's the latest version (called Hubble): https://github.com/KSP-CKAN/CKAN/releases/tag/v1.30.4

And here's the KSP Forum thread: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/197082-ckan-the-comprehensive-kerbal-archive-network-v1304-hubble/

That'd be good advice, except you can't actually get KSP mods on Steam. : P

Strange....why is there a KSP workshop on steam then?
https://steamcommunity.com/app/220200/workshop/

I mean, I never bothered with the workshop for KSP anyways...it's almost only designs and some missions. The "real" mods aren't on steam.

Just for craft sharing, there are no mods on it.

Yes though, using CKAN is the correct answer, that or installing manually.

Before "discovering" (better: paying attention to it's existence) CKAN I always installed mods manually which usually ended in a mess because of a mod conflict and than having to find out which mod is causing it and after that which mod to keep....
CKAN makes all of that way easier and as a bonus: you don't have to have steam running for being able to play KSP (that explains my low hours played on steam)

You are aware you can run the game without steam without using mods, right? Just use the exe in the file.

I've found it better to learn how to manage mods manually. No need for any additional thirdparty stuff and some modders dont directly support CKAN so it is not the "best advice" people should learn to mod manually...

You dont need steam to run KSP. It has always been DRM free. Heck I made seperate installs on my disk where steam would never touch the game with updates and just added launch parameter for steam to launch from those directions so I stil could use steam afterwards. Anyways some mods I use come from modders that dont support CKAN and at times you have to read the README files included to choose what you want to include or not etc... Modding manually has never caused me a problem. While so I can see many ways the automatic modding can cause problems if the program encounters a mod that does not support CKAN or has specific ways to be installed that is only described with a README files.
