The only con I can think of with buying the DLC later is you might get bored of the game before getting them, or by the time you get them, your interest has dropped and you don't get the value of them. On the other side, you could buy everything and get bored with the game quickly.
I suppose it comes down to how valuable £20 is to you. Is buying the DLC going to break the bank or cause future financial issues? That's rhetorical and only intended as a perspective.
I use the extra rocket parts quite a bit. I used to use the robotics a lot as well. Been a bit lazy to mess with them too much recently though.
Although I don't create my own missions or do much of the other stuff the DLCs add, I still think it would be worth it alone for the rocket parts and extra science stuff.
One thing to note though... some people have reported a bug that seems to be fixed when they get the DLC!?! The bug wasn't game breaking or anything but just something to note in the pro vs con thing.
I played the demo a while ago before I got the game. The demo was really limited in scope. The full game with other planets and moons, comets etc. really is a big step up in playing.
Have fun!
Thats said, for £20 you cant go wrong.
More seriously, it's a question of how often you want it to happen that you'd like to do such and such thing that someone else can do, and then realize that you can't because it requires something from the DLC. The base game is playable by itself, so you don't really need the DLC. But it does add some useful stuff.
