Report a translation problem
I could probably figure them out now after 3000hrs in game but hardly the point of a tutorial. Just get what you can from them and play the game to figure it out. Any issues you can always ask here for help.

It didn't seem to be actually effecting the performance the ship, as I could still make orbit it was just messing up the tutorial detection of whether you were flying correctly or not. Still a little concerning, and now I'm worried the mods are messing more things up.
Nah, the tutorials are very specific. If you having the making history DLC and you try those missions then they could be screwed up, but you will be fine otherwise. Any issues will be obvious.
I don't have the DLC, so that's not the issue. The "go for orbit" tutorial was totally fine on clean install with no mods and no DLC. Install the stock waterfall mod using CKAN, and the tutorial didn't work as it quickly thought I was going off target, even if you let SAS follow the target. Uninstall the mod, and the tutorial was fine again.
