[Making History] How do I unlock Personal Parachutes in Career Mode?

tl;dr answer: Untick Kerbal Experience in new game setup or level your kerbals to atleast level 2.

I can't figure it out, when I go to use the parachutes in Sandbox they work fine - but when I press the key in Career Mode there's no response - it's already cost me 1 Kerbal...alittle help please?

Gah - they HAD to tie it to the level system. That's one thing I couldn't stand about the base game - I rarely get my kerbals to level up tbh - it's like a curse. I've never even gotten a Level 2 Kerbal let alone level 3....

Lol, it's easy enough. You just need to orbit Kerbin, land on the mun, land on minmus and orbit the sun very briefly. Be sure to plant at least one flag on each moon.

Getting to level 3 requires 16 points.

Certainly not.
It says level 3 in the notes but my kerbals got chutes and are at most level 2.

The level system here's kind of preventing historical Vostok recreation in career mode, and that's sad. Just another case of the game's features falling far short of resembling the actual path of development manned (spaceflight) has taken.

I just want to make the first Kerbal to orbit the planet have to jump out of his capsule and parachute to safety like Gagarin, man.

While we're at it why not get the des to add high altitude balloons with capsules. So we can have science stuff floating around the planet and eventually jool.jumping from a high altitude balloons with le be fun.

If you set the "level up immediatly" in the options it should be doable.

Edit: Although it's not Level-up immediately - but unticking Kerbal Experience.
