when is sas first unlocked?

I can't seem to find it anywhere on the science tree.

You don’t unlock it though the science tree, unless it’s unlocking a probe core that supports it.

You get SAS by:
>Having a Pilot
>Having a probe core that supports SAS. Most probe cores except Stayputnik and the rover one have SAS.

Or C, the navigation system, I forgot the name of, gives SAS and other abilities when mounted, even if you don’t have a pilot or a SAS probe core.

SAS is not a ship part so it won't be in the tech tree. SAS will always be there if you have a pilot or probe core with SAS capabilities

ok, thanks for all the help. I'm just spinning through the air for now...trying to hit large areas on the map. Not gonna lie--me likey! Just very hard to control for now.

You need just a pilot to unlock SAS. If get a one Star for your pilot in carrer mode you get some prograde and retrograde and a you lvl up your pilot, your pilot gets new skill to do more manuvers. Also, if you want a unmmaned pod, you need a good enough pod like that big yellow one.
