I never noticed a FPS drop with scatters turned on.

Depends on your machine and the graphic setting you are using, running scatterer on a potato with maxed out graphics will indeed lag your game

He's talking about a mod that adds light scattering, not the terrain scatter from the stock game.

And yeah, it's pretty intensive. If you are having trouble running KSP in the first place it will definitely make your fps drop.

I don't think there is a FPS hit but there should be a slight increase in loading time after all it is loading more stuff. Once loaded it should be the GPU that is doing the work. The CPU is so heavily loaded with other stuff so wont notice if GPU have a little bit more to do.

Scatterer and cloud mods etc are worth it 70% of the time. How about a orange sun rise where the light colors everything you see including the water? I think it is worth it. City lights etc are nice too.
