Migrating to Linux
Hello,

My main computer now is a Lenovo Legion Y520-15IKBN - 15,6" Full HD Noir (Intel Core i7, 8 Go de RAM,1 To+SSD 256 Go, Nvidia GTX1050, Windows 10)

I am pondering about installing Ubuntu on it (I alrealdy know Ubuntu and used it for several years on others computers).

Do you think the Linux version will be as good as the windows version of the game ?

I use ubuntu 16.04 to play KSP and runs fine. No diference in performance compared to windows.

it should run fine. Just remember you will have to use right shift for cheat menu and probably something more.

On the other hand Linux is so "2007". Except you are a developer or lost in time around 1995, Windows is really fine system. 25 years of serious development. So why the trouble?

I have used Ubuntu for a long time and I don't think "it is so "2007"". and I don't think this is a place to launch a windows vs linux flame war pally.

Yeah... RoofCat is right, Linux just isn't cool anymore.

Remember back in the day when they said it would kill Windows? ...So funny to look back on that now lol.

no, no flame here. You just mentioned you already have Windows 10. Probably best OS in the world right now. That's why I was surprised you consider such change. Why all the trouble?
I know it is not hard to install and have Linux. You just already have OS. Arguably better one for all games.

Have it your way.

Ok I did not thought it would be useful to justify my entire IT life to answer my questions. Whatever OS I use should not be your concern, it's my privacy.

But if you wanna know.

Born in 1971, I used, Tandy's TRS-80, then, PC before even Windows 3.1 existed, used to play on dos, then Windows 95, then 98, then millenium, then XP then one day in 2007 as I was studying on an admin IT formation, I discovered Linux was not the monster I thought all these years and I have used Ubuntu and XP on dual boot for a pair of years before going full Ubuntu for ethic and philosophic reasons until 2017 then I tried Windows 10 on a laptop I was using at that time.

This latpop is now the property of my girlfriend and instead, I have the Lenovo Legion I described earlier.

I am not here to discuss Linux vs Windows, Each have their merits depending on what you do with them. Me I can play with both and tha'ts all that matters. Anyway, can we go back to the topic now

The game should work OK in Ubuntu. That's the platform that tends to be tested against. Since alt is used as a hotkey in some window managers, any functions in KSP that rely on it are rebound to RShift. So as mentioned, alt+F12 becomes RShift+F12 to get to the debug menu.

Reminds me I need to get a little fanless i7 penguin-powered box. They're handy things.

this is what I was guessing the whole time.

Windows wasn't tested on animals :)

My first private PC had 4.6MHz core, 640KB RAM I coded on in Pascal and had terrible green screen. Is that really relevant choosing best gaming platform today?

I know it was not tested on animals ;).

I was on the Windows world before going to the Linux World. Now I am happy to know both because I can play on Windows at home and my computer, at work, is on Ubuntu (my boss agreeed because our applications are browsers based so...)
