I know those can be a doozy.
my largest ships have been inbetween 500 600 parts and at point of take off i notice an fps drop stooping to a low of 8, but ive not crashed on these missions and the fps come back after the first seperation, its just random crashes
yeh man, thats what i did just left the squad folder, is it possible for mods to be elsewher ?
Most crashes happen because of lack of memory, If you are pretty sure that you have no mods running I would check any other background programs running. You have to remember that other programs use up your memory too while playing a game. Might also want to do a malware check on your comp. I suggest malwarebytes and tddskiller.
I like that KSP quick save is so incredibly fast. So I press F6 all the time and it is not just because KSP can crash but also to NOT lose work I done and the last F6 is not far away.
There is a trap that things might be going well and you are flying easy missions you think will go well. You then start presing F6 less often. But those safe missions contains just as many maneuvers and take just as long.
So just get into the habit of pressing F6
* Before each burn.
* Before each landing.
* Before leaving a ship to fly another.
Everything gets stored in a single save file. Tech tree progress and where all kerbals and ships are. Simply everything. Quick save overwrites the same save file over nd over again.
And press Alt-F6 after
* Every completed contract.
* Every major step that completed a lot of work. Like multiple landings mining refueling tankers. When all is completed you really want a save point to be there.
* Before selecting to research stuff in the tech tree.
* Before launching any huge ships that almost make you go broke.
* Policy changing at the administration building.
KSP will start become unstable when you have a lot of save files. Just go into the save directory and delete all savefile #xxxx, clean up and continue.
And press Alt-F6 and "name" the save file after any major events in the career
* first time at in space, some moon, after researching stuff in tech tree
Your ship designs should never get lost. They are saved separately om saves/VAB direcotry.
If you just do this you should not be able to say you lost much work if KSP crashes or YOU crash a ship.
Do these saves like a robot and try remember not to fall into some sense of security confidence and slowly stop pressing F6. If you stop pressing F6 and something happen and you loose work then you should be bashing yourself and not KSP.
im using windows 10 and have windows defender, didnt want to use thirdparty software and according to windows defender things are fine, i check my memory often it wasnt maxed out.
thanks for the in depth reply :) - yes i always save now, i saved before leaving the mun, so i only have to do it again from there, i have about 3 quick save files and 4 other game saves
yeh man its just one pf those personal problems i think, i have the same thing with gta 5 wich crashes randomly and could never find a fix, no problems on all many other games though, i dont think ill find much more help on this one
