Kerbal Space Program

Unable to start
Keen on having a go during the free weekend, but on startup am getting the little alien pop up with an exclimation mark. Not much else. Then crashes. Any help out there?

That screen sounds like the Unity crash event handler, which doesn't really say much other than what you already know, it's crashing.

You should have a file in the install directory called KSP.log, it might be worth opening in notepad and having a snoop to see if there are any obvious messages there. If it's all gobbledegook to you then you can copy and paste the contents to pastebin.com and post a link to it here for someone to read.

There's also other files that can be helpful to check but I would start there first.

Same here. KSP hasn't worked for me since 1.7.3. I've tried going to the KSP site, but the buttons to get their contact information do nothing.

Thanks a lot for this. Would it be just the txt doc labelled KSP?

Heh, yeah. If you don't have file extensions showing then it will probably just look like a standard text document in the icon. Right click on it then open the properties window and it should display the extension if you want to be sure.

Go to the bottom of the store page and look at the System Requirements. If your machine doesn't meet at least the minimum recommended system requirements that's the problem, your computer isn't capable of running the game.

You do not need to use pastebin.com to post your log file here. You can simply open the file with any text editor, press CTRL+A (to select all), CTRL+C (to copy it), and CTRL+V (to paste it here). There is absolutely no need to do anything else.

First, you need to turn file extensions on so you can see them so you know which one is the log file. To do that in Windows open File Explorer, at the top of the window click on View and then click to place a check mark next to "File Name Extensions". Done.

To get to the game's directory open your Steam Library and Right-Click on Kerbal Space Program, Select "Properties" and in the "Local Files" tab click on the "Browse Local Files" button.
Double-Click on the file named "KSP.log" and select notepad to open it with. Then you can follow the copy/paste instructions above if you needed that instruction.

Please be aware: These forums are not official support. This is the community, the people here are not official support for the game we are players just like you. If you would like official support you need to email:

support@kerbalspaceprogram.com

Steam/Valve will not provide support for it because they are not the developers.
The above email address is how you reach the developers of this game.

They will want the log file as well. You should be able to drag and drop it in to the email message you send them if you don't know how to navigate attachment options to get to it and attach it.

If you would like to continue with community members trying to help, we might be able to, please post your computer specs and paste your log file contents.

Spyro,

Nice! I'm taking advantage of the free weekend as well. I've wanted to check this game out for a while. While I'm new to the game I'm not new to log files. Log files don't always list the specs. Nice that this one does!

Your pc is well capable of running the game.

For the API error that's most likely due to a bad install. Try Verifying the Game Files to correct that. Try and launch the game after that finishes. If it still doesn't launch go to the game directory and open "settings.cfg". You can change your screen resolution and other graphics settings manually with that file.

Find:
Originally posted by settings.cfg:
SCREEN_RESOLUTION_WIDTH = 1920
SCREEN_RESOLUTION_HEIGHT = 1080
FULLSCREEN = True
Note: This is what my settings config says because that is what I have the resolution set to. Your log file says your resolution is 1280 X 720 so yours might say that. Try different screen resolutions. It *should* run at 1280X800 so....

Change those settings to:
Originally posted by settings.cfg:
SCREEN_RESOLUTION_WIDTH = 1280
SCREEN_RESOLUTION_HEIGHT = 800
FULLSCREEN = False

That will cause it to try to launch in 1280x800 in windowed mode.
Don't forget to save and close the file after editing. The settings won't take effect if you don't save the changes, of course, but they may not load either if the file is still open. Some games are like that.

If it runs you should be able to set your preferred resolution settings in the graphics options.
