Kerbal leveling help
So I look in the wiki and it states...
"Each Kerbal can only gain the experience once per celestial body..."

Is that on a single mission or ever? I mean if I take a kerbal for a plane flight will they never be able to get credit for orbit on that same celestial body? I took a group to Minimus to plant a flag so I won't get credit for any of them going into orbit even on another run?

Also another thing. Is reputation related to kerbal leveling at all or is it just a resource you use in management of the facility? Is there no way to accelerate kerbal leveling in the same way you can with money or science? Other than "on or off" that is.

Thanks for any help.

Planting flags almost always gives the kerbal max exp for that planet.
Going to orbit after planting a flag (good job if you got to the surface without reaching orbit first) will give no extra exp.

Planting a flag will instantly max out your kerbal's exp for that planet in one shot.

Planting a flag is considered to be the hardest thing you can do with a Kerbal.
You generally have to get to orbit, land, then have your kerbal go outside before planting your flag.

Getting XP for e.g. flight on Kerbin, then orbit around Kerbin on another flight is possible. And pretty sure planting a flag means max XP for that body (except Kerbin), so whether you ever entered orbit will not matter.

Kerbals get exp for doing things on and around planets.
If Jeb goes to orbit the Mun, he gets exp.
If he then lands on the Mun, he gets more exp.
If he then returns home, he levels up a bit.

If he then goes back to the surface of the Mun, he will gain no exp because he was already there once.
If he plants a flag instead, he will get a bit more exp and max out his Mun exp.
Jeb can no longer gain exp from the Mun after planting a flag, but he can plant a flag on Minmus instead for maximum Minmus exp.

Planets that are more difficult to get to will give more exp.
I'm told you can level a kerbal from 0 to 5 by planting flags on a few moons around Jool.
You can level kerbals up off Kerbin with the mobile science lab if you have a connection to KSC.

Reputation influences the difficulty of the missions you're offered.
Higher rep generates tougher missions while lower rep generates easier missions.

You can hover over a kerbal in the Astronaut Complex to see what they have done so far and how close they are to leveling. Check out these charts on the wiki.

Well I'm still confused...

If, by your example, Jeb started by planting a flag on Minimus. Would that mean he would get the max XP from Minimus in one shot? Or would he still be able to get XP in going back and going into orbit only?

Thanks. I am just glad I am not losing a chance to get xp by doing it all at once. But if the plant the flag XP is cumulative of the others than it doesn't matter.

You can never miss your chance to get exp.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this or if you know but just FYI by default Kerbals will only level up after they are returned to Kerbin however you can also level them up in a science lab or by setting the game option to have them level up instantly.
