Change Launch Site?
Hey guys, very new to the game, trying to do some of the "trivial" contracts in career mode but they require being in space above other facilities. Since you don't get good flight control until way later in the science tree, I'm assuming you launch directly from these facilities and take reports after that? Problem is, I can't find any option to change launch sites. I've read other discussions about going into the options and checking the option to enable other launch sites, but that's not anywhere in my settings. I'm also playing what I'm assuming is the vanilla game as I didn't purchase the expansion. I feel like I'm missing something really obvious as these ARE marked as trivial and should just require launching a ship and taking a science report....

There should be a little drop-down menu attached to the launch button in the VAB.

Nope, nothing. I've looked at other screenshots too and I see what it's supposed to be, it's just not there in mine

You have to have the expansion to launch from other sites.

Not that it matters, we used to do those contracts way before they added that.

go into your difficulty setting and turn extra launch sites on (I think this is only available in the DLC), also those places the contracts tell you to fly over are just random areas of the planet

There is only one launch site (the Kerbal Space Center) unless you added mods.

The contracts that ask you to go to certain locations are usually a total ball-ache and not worth accepting... It's easy to get to Mun or Minmus, and that's fun. Now the Badlands... well good luck on your two hour manually controlled flight... then you get there and realise it's asking for an EVA in flight, not really possible... Then a two hour flight home, don't ♥♥♥♥ up the landing!!

Just ignore it and go to Mun. Or Duna, might be quicker ;-p

Edit: Sorry I didn't know new launch sites were available in the new DLC, it's too expensive for my liking. Still, those contracts are randomly placed and not worth bothering with.

:/ that was the answer I expected. Thanks though!

Just put some basic control surfaces on a rocket and do a sub-orbital hop over there.

It's really not as hard as it seems.

However yeah, I gotta agree with that guy; there are way easier missions for way better rewards.

Kerbin is boring and has a low payout.
The Mun is much more interesting and the contracts pay more.

Rather than adding DLC's I'd highly recommend adding mods to mould the game to your liking. It is the most played game in my library despite my previous comment.

What do you want it to be? Have you reached orbit yet, that's the biggest challenge I think.

I don't think I've tried that due to the low rewards! I have flown there though and crashed trying to land a jet on the rough terrain ;-p

Dont bother landing, especially when new to the game. Strap a couple parachutes on your plane and when ready to land just shut off your engines and engage the parachutes. You wont get as much back as if you went back and landed but since most landings end in crash and burns, its much faster and safer.
