Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program

Can I make money besides contracts?
I have big ambitions for my space program and that require C A S H :cozybethesda:.
So I can I somehow make money besides contracts ( they are annoying, random and not fun ), maybe mining ore and selling? That way I could make infrastructure.

P.S. Is there any mod that would allow orbital construction for 1.5.1? Kinda want to build shipyards aswell!

Thanks :cozycrashfish:

If you mine Ore and recover the vessel you do get money yes, but it's not exactly going to make you rich.

You can also use strategies in the admin building to trade some things for money, or ask for a bail out. Once you are more established you can get the "NASA"-esque strategy which makes contracts pay out very little but rewards you way more money and other stuff for doing worlds firsts.

Really though, if you are playing Career mode you need to do the contracts, that's kind of the whole point.

too bad that contracts are annoying that want you to do same thing over and over and don't chain well enough. Like "Do a fly-by of duna" and then "Explore minmus"

So get a contract mod first ;-)

And maybe the Scansat mod for some extra science and cash. Combine with antenna satelites so you also build up your connection network.

I enjoy them just fine?

If you don't like Contracts, Career mode prolly isn't for you since that's it's main feature and all; try Science mode.

My games is on verge of breaking from mods... ( and I have that mod and few others )

I progressed too much in my current save to change to science

there is higher chance for you to get contracts you do the most. So it is acutally the other way around. You do them and then get more. Don't do ones you don't like and wait for others, they change every 3 days or so. So if you go to Duna with no contracts for it, don't do fast forward the whole trip but rather FF few days and check again. Rinse and repeat. This way when I go to Duna I have like 10 contracts for it and can complete them all at once rather easy. Like some mining in case I have mining ship anyway, flag on the surface, science from orbit, science from surface... you know all the stuff that doesn't require you to do much at all. So basically you just fly your game, fly with a 80k ship to Duna with your orange team for fun and get extra 2..5 mio along the way just for being nice. Money really isn't an issue in this game.
I'am doing couple missions at once, while the rover was in transit to duna, I was farming science from minmus, placed a station in the orbit of the mun, did Apollo style mission to the mun and landed more... still nothing good that would bring me money

If you haven't been to Duna SOI yet, you won't get contracts except for milestones.
Yet as soon as you enter it, there could be some. Stop after crossing border, check contract timers,... you got the idea.
Also you rather won't get contract for flag while sitting on the surface already. Not sure there is a strict rule, it's more like accumulated suspicion about my bad luck or something. Because I often get those the moment I launch back into orbit.
Anyway, do those things you like and ignore the rest.

My favorite contracts were tourists while gathering science from all the different biomes on Mun since tourists don't ask for particular biome and pay for the trip and it is over in 3 days time. And then doing 6 flyby probes later on - 30..50k costs, 1.2mio+ reward with some slingshot fun along the way.
Mining ore from bodies is ridiculous easy too as some contracts don't require you to move anything, just mine 3000 ore for example. So just leave mining ship on Minmus and cash in every few weeks. There is ton of money in KSP. The only contract that's not profitable is moving ore from Eve to Gilly (or other place). All of the rest can be made profitable afaik. Or tell me another that isn't. Some reward you with 10..50 times more than the costs needed to complete them, some with 2..4x.
I have lots of quest to build stations " there and there" and they offer 200k for 12 kerbal space and its annoying cause I want to build stations that are weird and look nice. ( Can't do that with 200k reward )

If you make reusable rockets and land them near the space center you get about 3 quarters of your money back. And of course try to complete multiple missions with 1 launch.

Am I the only one that saw the thread title and thought that a no contract career might make for an interesting challenge?

Not sure what the OP was looking for but can't one just go into debug mode and add cash? If you really want to avoid contracts, that seems the easiest.

I would love if you could build parts with ore, this is how I want to build rockets on other planets.

well then extraplanetary launchpads is compatible with the current version of ksp, so knock yourself out.

Hello mate. I've earned money after starting contracts to get some ore from Mun, Minmus, Duna, Ike. 200-800 k credits. Also missions to mine ore and deliver it to kerbin or another moon/planet.

There is a trick also if you want... Put your drilling machines witch ore tanks for about 1500 ore on some planets/moons. Search for propper contracts for mine and delivery ore. Mine ore on 1st planet, then switch for 2nd planet (described in contract) and wait with ore on board to fullfill contract :)
