Munar Excursion Module (M.E.M.)
Hey all, long time KSP player. Been away for a while, and coming back to play with some of the new parts and features. Went into the VAB and started looking at the new parts. Saw the new M.E.M. and plopped it down to start building a rocket, with the intent of going to the Mun. During building I noticed a curious, in my opinion, flaw in the M.E.M.'s design. When attaching something to the attachment point on the bottom of the M.E.M., an angled shroud appears at the bottom of the M.E.M. If attaching the M.E.M. directly to an object that is 1.875m, the shroud lines up, but that is it. This shroud doesn't seem to work well with any other parts. Not only that, but the shroud gets in the way when trying to attach a useable ladder to the M.E.M. for Munar EVA's. So far, I have found no option to disable the shroud, and no engine to attach to the bottom that works and aesthetically doesn't make me want to stick my thumbs into my eyeballs.

Why would they include this terrible design in what could have been a much more useful part to build with? Why not add the option to disable the shroud?

Does anyone have any advice about how to build with this part, and end up with a functional and aesthetically pleasing design? Are radially attached engines the only option, with a decoupler the only part that can realistically be attached to the bottom?

There is RoofCat, your just not sure of the language used.

He means the new munar lander pod and the Making history parts.

@OP - The low flange on the attachment point is optional. If you zoom in and check there is a secondary node slightly above the flange point. Use this one then the cover wont show iirc.

Thank you! I went back in the VAB and sure enough, there apparently is a second attachment point that doesn't display the shroud. It is not intuitive at all that there is the second attachment point. My mouse cursor had to essentially be on the side of the module to get the engine to attach at the higher attachment point, and the green node is obscured by the green node of the point that makes the shroud appear.
