Best Ways for Research Points when Starting Off?
I just achieved orbit, how else can I get more research points in career mode?

Your best bet is going to the Mun or Minimus. Make sure you send a manned mission & get samples of the ground, that's worth a nice chunk of science.

You probably can. The earliest I can do a Mun mission is once I've got heat shields & the reliant. It is much easier once you get the poodle, though.

You can hopp arroud the ksc as mentioned above. Also the grasslands, warter, highlands, mountains and the desert are close. This should give you enough science to go to minmus.
Forgett about mun, minmus is way better!

The OP seemed new, and the inclination change might be difficult for them. That's why I suggested the Mun.

- Set Minmus as target
- Place maneuver at ascending or decending node (Yellow thing that spawned on orbit after setting minmus as target, it should read some kind of angle)
- Fiddle arround with the purple things on your maneuver node until the new angle reads ~0°
- Execute maneuver

yes i like to fiddle around with my purple thing
i know how to do an inclination btw

Well then off to minmus!!!

Did you do low (70k-250k) and high orbit science? (250k+)

Low (below 20k?) and high (above 20k?) atmo science? (Not concrete on the numbers, it's either 20 or 50)

You could be missing a lot of easy points.

Oh yes a low polar orbit and the ability to do EVAs also is a nice kickstart.

Solar orbit is easy as well, just keep burning prograde till you leave Kerbin's SOI, boom; you are in high solar orbit. Do some science, then turn around and go right back.

How do you use the ascending and descending nodes? They're the two lines that connect the target planet (Minmus's) orbit and Kerbin, right? I've never really touched them so idk anything about them, but are they used for maneuvers?
maculator Feb 14, 2018 @ 11:32am
You can't touch them. You can right click them to see the angle of your orbits while playing with your maneuver node.
Those nodes show you where your orbit and the target orbit cross and whats the angle.

Make a car with the first space plane parts you unlock. (jet engine car, doesn't need to fly)
Collect science around the space center, you get more points for every building you visit. It gets you a good few hundred points really quickly right at the start.
