Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program

Saved Game missing.
I just installed Avast, which may have something to do with it.

I loaded KSP and my saved games are not there.

Thanks. Where are games saved in the steam version of KSP?

Right click on the name of the game and find the button for local files.

You'll see in that directory "saved games".

You can rename any .sfs you see to the persistant one in the sub folder.

when I right click on the name of the game, where do I do this? In Steam? My icon? On the hard drive?

So odd.
I found local files. I found my save game folder. It's just that they are not there. At all.

I cannot believe this happening exactly as I switched antivirus/firewall is a coincidence but... nothing in quarantine either.

Well. I followed instructions.

ALL of my previous savegames are gone. We're talking two main game save files and countless mid mission saves. All gone.

did you check backup folder there for autosaves?

Anyway, something is messed up on your PC. Or probably you have multiple KSP copies and looking in the wrong place. Saves don't delete themselves. Maybe you deleted the wrong career or something in KSP, no idea. Antivirus has no reason to delete text files - which KSP saves all are.

We could guess access limitations not allowing saves in the first place and what not, but without seeing your PC and Steam/KSP configuration it is all just a speculation. Ask some real life friend/relative who has more experience with PC to look at yours or check what happens with new saves.

Well. I don't know what to say.

It's all gone, and with biblical thoroughness.

going forward I guess I can concoct some form of scheme to make spare backups just in case.
I do find it odd that this happened almost exactly as I got rid of one security system and installed another, but at this point it doesn't matter. It seems there is no solution, and no real point in affixing blame. I can't imagine that some hacker hacked me and that their big target was my Kerbal saves...

the new security software seems to play nice with Kerbal, at least going forward. Other than the issue with saves the game itself works fine.

Which means...I guess I'll have to make up for lost progress by...Playing more Kerbal Space Program.

Oh Darn. ;)

Sometimes the problem is a solution in disguise.

Thanks to everyone though. Without you I wouldn't have been sure where to look, and wouldn't have the peace of knowing I was thorough.

Most people call this best practice.
Get yourself a backup solution, select your saves from all your games and be done with it.
I've used mine a few times already just to walk back progress to a spot I could try again.

I know my phrasing is trite but...there's something special about your first.

The necromancer actually brought back the dead.

On topic- I have a bunch of old save games but honestly over time I have improved my building of things to the point that when I go back to look at them I mostly laugh over how bad they were.

Not really worth saving for the most part... man some of those early rockets are funny though!

You should really use something other than Avast:
