Outside the atmosphere! It is a lousy engine for atmospheric flight.

Is this a case of wrong or no fuel? You need fuel tanks with oxidiser in them.

Thank you i just thought i needed liquid fuel

Yes that is a basic confusion new players have with the game - they see the words "liquid fuel engine" and see a part that says it holds "liquid fuel" and think they work together. It's a perfectly understandable mistake because 'Liquid fuel engine' is a bit of an abbreviated shorthand that doesn't really describe it accurately. A more accurate description would be "liquid fuel plus oxidizer engine".

don't use it at all. It is probably the worst engine in game. Start with Reliant.

nothing to be proud of - really bad choice on questionably flyable design.

what a useful and constructive comment....

Op asked what swivels are used for and this guy showed him what he used them for no need to be a douchebag about it.

RoofCat can be a little abrasive, but he's right.

The Swivel is hands down one of, if not the worst engine in KSP. The reliant is just superior in every way short of gimbal, which can be solved through reaction wheels and/or control surfaces.

No one is saying you "can't" use the Swivel, you can. It's just never going to be as efficient a choice for pretty much any real gameplay mission.

I mean the difference in efficiency is definetly noticeable but its not big and its not like efficiency matters a lot in this game, especially if you are still at a stage of the game where you dont even know how to use a liquid fuel engine properly i'd probably argue that the gimbal is more useful than 400 meters of delta-v

Hey if you are using the Swivel and having success with it, more power to ya.

I was just explaining that RoofCat was technically right.

I don't have any personal issues with anyone using the Swivel if they like it.

Why does every thread RootCat enters get derailed?
He built a star destroyer, he used cheats to orbit it, who cares?! IT'S A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STAR DESTROYER, not a rocket thats supposed to do any economic beneficial mission!
He just showed what you can do with a swivel.

1. Swivel is bad. You can't reach Kerbin orbit with single very early Swivel craft iirc. It can not lift itself plus MK1 Command pod to orbit. How great is that? You can so easily with Reliant though.
I'm just trying to save beginners time trying to do undoable. Don't use Swivel ever. It's crap. There are better solutions for basically everything. Swivel is just too heavy and wasteful.
2. Putting Swivel on a plane that I'm pretty sure can't do what it is built for doesn't prove it is a good engine, does it?
