KSP brought in commnet, a new way of communicating with probes. All probes have internal antenna, but they're super weak.
So; you can either create a small relay network (can be as simple as launching a single relay sat into a high apo, low peri, polar orbit around kerbin)
or
You can disable commnet entirely using game settings, so probes work like they used to.
Press Esc, you'll see "Difficulty settings: Normal" (or whatever) click that and it'll open a box to change the settings. Commnet is in there somewhere.
