Not a particularly good solution, but you could do a text replace on your .craft files. May save at least some time.

Say I create a craft called "Test2" in the VAB and save it. I will now have a file called "Test2.craft" in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program\saves\[Save name]\Ships\VAB".

If I open up the file in my favorite text editor I could replace all occurances of "autostrutMode = Off" with "autostrutMode = Heaviest" or "autostrutMode = Root" or "autostrutMode = Grandparent" as I like

I use Ultraeditor myself but I have a grandfathered lifetime license. Try Notepad++ if you don't have an editor you already like.

  • The menu function would be Search/Replace or use the keyboard shortcut CRTL-H.
  • Put "autostrutMode = Off" without quotes in the "Find What" field.
  • Put "autostrutMode = Root" without quotes in the "Repalce with" field.
  • Then Press Repace All and save.

Danger Will Robinson indeed. Save a backup before editting.

No, but will have to load the part in the VAB again after making the changes in the text editor. Remeber to to close the file in the text editor lest you overwite any future changes you make in the VAB.
