Problems with struts
I may be doing something wrong, but I've tried for at least 3 hours to get this to work to no avail. When placing struts, one of three things happens. It eitherplaces one end where I want it and the other at least 5 meters further than I want it, doesn't place the second end at all and therefore the strut, or it works for one less than however much my radial is. I'm getting extremely frustruated, so before I quit the game, could someone help me with this? By the way, I'm not looking for workarounds. I need this fixed, period.

it's worth adding that when using radial, it literally never works for all of the struts being placed. about 98% of the time it doesn't appear at all, the other 2% it places it in a placenowhere near where I want it

Strutst must be in line of site. If its side by side from outside a tank it usualy dont work. Also, make sure there is nothing between them if you are puting more then one struts in one time. Good luck!

if it doesn't work on the outside (if I understand you correctly) how do I make it on the inside?

Are we talking about landing struts (i.e. legs), or the EAS-4 Strut Connector?

Either way, the system can get confused by symmetry modes, either mirror or n-way radial.

In a pinch, you can attach struts one at a time. The move tool can help make sure everything is aligned perfectly.

Landing legs are bugged in the current version. The LT-2 tends to explode on contact with the ground quite easily. This should be fixed in a later update.

On a side note, you can game the system and use both forms of symmetry . In the lander below, I first placed one pylon in front or back of the craft, and added the legs using mirror symmetry . I then moved the radial decoupler and added the part back using 4-way symetry. And presto, 8 perfectly level landing legs.

In my experience symmetry has been wonky for a very long time (I have screenshots dating back to 2014), and I would not hold my breath for this getting fixed any time soon. In general, KSP seems to randomly pick the base object when you use radial symmetry - e.g. if you attach a fin in 2-way radial symmetry to boosters then that could mean two fins attached to one booster (insane), or one fin attached to each booster (sane).

Your best bet is to build the radial thrusters without symmetry (as a subassembly or below the rocket), and only attach them radially when you are done. Struts work best when you start at the central tank (where you can pick the correct symmetry) instead of the radial boosters (where KSP will pick insane symmetry).

I appreciate the help, it's at least enough to know I'm not just terrible at the game. Well, I am, but like most people I'm happy to have something to blame other than myself. Thanks to all.

It can be worst then that. Sometime my strut are well place in VAB. so i go and lauch and once in space i realise they are bad place (They aint where i put them). ??? So yea they are weird. :)
