Kerbal Space Program

Maneuver nodes aren't working.
I can create maneuver nodes but the ship will stay on the same orbit and will just go past them. Does anybody know what is the problem?

Huh? when you create a maneuver node it shows you where you will go AFTER you complete the node. in other words you have to make a burn AT the maneuver node. It doesn't do it automatically.

You have to direct it. It is not automated. Planning maneuver nodes is simply plotting yourself a course with a specific delta-v calculation. You still must manually orient yourself, start propulsion, and stop propulsion on your own.

Oh and before anyone asks.... The reason why so far in KSP there has been no way to automate maneuver nodes, even though logically you'd think it believable since such things are done in the real world, is because the game engine doesn't recognize anything that is not static (besides orbiting or in the middle of a transit) when you are not in that location (because it would be a processing nightmare).

For example, you couldn't:

Program probe to perform a maneuver in 5 hours

Go back to space center and do other things

Have that probe perform the actions while you're not there

You'd have to have it selected. It's just a limitation of the engine. It's similar to why you can't return to the space center with an active rocket or plane flying through Kerbin's atmosphere. The game just can't do it.

There's a lot of behind-the-scenes when it comes to KSP's physics engine and how it models gravity, speed, inertia, etc. that it simply can't do independently.

Planning a manouver node is like setting a destination on your satnav in the car. It only tells you how and when, it doesn't drive the car/fly the ship for you. If you want to automate things, you need to install mechjeb.

Question: Can Mechjob automate things to happen while you're just goofing around the space center? In other words, can your focus be elsewhere?

OP doesn't even own the game. Love when people pirate stuff and then take to the steam forums to ask for help.

You can still purchase it without Steam. Just because you don't see it in his Steam library doesn't mean he does not have it/pirated it. And he may simply prefer to use Steam forums. You never know. So don't be a Richard.

It could also be family shared.

Not necesseraly.
It wouldn't be too much of a stretch for the game to ping the current stage for remaining dV, and if it has enough, just subract the fuel mass and reposition the velocity.
I think it would make the game less fun, but *shrug* I don't think a processing taxation is the reason it hasn't been done yet.
