Kerbal Space Program

I just realised what courage actually does...
I don't know if this is common knowledge at this point or not, but based on what I read online, nobody's noticed this yet. Everything I read has said that courage/stupidity currently only affects the facial expressions on the Kerbals, and how they react to different situations, such as a Kerbal with high stupidity always grinning, even as the ship falls apart (looking at you, Jeb).

HOWEVER.

Look in your astronaut complex. The Kerbals with higher courage always have higher g-force tolerance. Val has *slightly* more courage than Jeb does. Likewise, she can sustain slightly more g's, and for slightly longer times. When you compare all the applicants to each other, the ones with higher courage always have proportionally higher g-force tolerance.

As far as I can tell, stupidity doesn't affect g-tolerance though. Maybe stupidity (and the BadS flag) are what only affects facial expressions, or maybe it has some other practical use.

Wait what? G-Force tolerance!? What the hell is going on here?

Ah, sorry, forgot to add that you have to have the difficulty option for g-forces affecting Kerbals turned on to see their g-force tolerance. It's off by default, you have to go into advanced difficulty settings to find it.

Huh. Never realised that.

I also noticed that pilots generally have a slightly higher gforce tolerance

Just to clarify, OP;
Courage plays a very small part, though it is a modifier.
Pilots have a larger multiplier
Levels play a more important role, which is why tourists are low levels.
Veterans of a mission will always be more tolerant of G-forces.
The badass tag also contributes.

Pilots have a g-force modifier. I think it's 1.15x at 0 stars, 1.3x at one star, 1.45x at two, etc.

Didn't know the badass tag affected g-tolerance.

Anyways, I don't suppose anyone knows what stupidity does?

Courage/Stupidity affect their facial expressions during different events.
Astronaut Feb 23, 2018 @ 5:54pm
He said that in the description.

I was responding to MarthVaders question about Stupidity.

I know this is a game, but what does taking risks actually have to do with being able to withstand g-forces better?
Astronaut Feb 23, 2018 @ 6:55pm
Sadly no

yep. Plus there is also gExperienced tag in save file for each astronaut. Besides badS and veteran. So it may depend a lot on what that pilot has went through before. Tried to test it yesterday, but failed to knock out Val at 6+G in new career. Got carried away by Lego eventually. May test another time to see how and when it changes. Or doesn't. May be sleeper tag too.

I have seen people faint or become chaotic or numb in real life extreme situations. I think courage has a lot to do with physical body staying in control of itself. If your brain panics, it also spreads a lot of bad chemicals and commands through the body. You may need to refresh your anatomic course.

And pilots have a higher g tolerance because they expect higher g forces.
Shame jeb, bill and bob dont have higher bases, since they’re OG crew, they remember a time when sas modules were displayed in staging, damnit!
