Breaking Ground mission bring mun stone back to kerbin bugged

I started a fresh game for the new dlc. i grabbed the mission bring mun stone back to kerbin when i saw it. i tied that mission in with first landing on the mun. landed and searched the farside crater for a bit till i found a stone i collected the stone got into my lander and met up with my transfer vehicle, took all experements from the lander and boarded my transfer craft flew back to kerbin splashed down recovered vehicle and the only mission that did not complete was the bring mun stone back!

over a thousand hours into ksp so i know im not doing anything wrong should have been a piece of cake to do this mission , is anyone else having trouble getting this mission to finish or know what i did wrong?

I completed it but never used a transfer vehicle. I think that is your problem. I think the rock is still “stuck” in the original lander. Definitely a bug.

Does the rock turn into an experiment when you bring it aboard? I wouldn't have expected it to do that.

actually i think Kerbal Inventory System may be to blame just patched it new build says something about not interacting with breaking ground ground objects, its possible that having kis and stock inventory systems may be conflicting reloading now and looking for a new mun stone to confirm

nope that didnt work either......i fully removed kerbal attachment system and kerbal inventory system and the moon stone will still not be added to my inventory..............

is anyone else having this issue or know a work around? ive uninstalled mods landed a different craft and tried again, no matter what i do the mun stone never gets put into my inventory

Trying to keep this post alive hopefully for some answers or help I don't want to use the cheat console to finish the contract

Well if it doesn't go in my inventory then the mission is bugged because I've done it multiple times with
multiple crafts and getting rid of certain mods even verified the game integrity through steam and the mission will not complete

I've yet to do this type of retrieval mission. When you pick up a rock is it an experiment (like an EVA report) or is it an item that goes in the kerbal's new inventory slot?

If it's an inventory item, you'll need a storage container to put it in I'd bet. Unlike KIS, this stock system might not save items in a kerbal's inventory when they board a craft.

Totally just a guess though, as I haven't played with the new inventory and ground stuff much yet.

At this stage I'm not even sure. When I pick up moon stone it brings up the experiment screen like all other science nothing gets put in inventory when I get back to kerbin I get the science reward for the moon stone but no completion on the bring back mun stone mission.........never had anything in this game annoy me more than this in all thousand hours played....

I have exactly the same problem now. When i pick up a moon stone, the experimental window appears where i can choose to store it, or to send it. i clicked "store it" all the time, but as i enter my ship, it directly "turns into a science file".... note that i have also mounted a KIS inventory on my ship as also a sample storage container. But it still turns to a science file immedately....

I had the same problem with the Minmus stone, picked it up via Jeb's context menu. Boarded the lander, landed on Kerbin, went into the hangar and I still have the mission.
It's none of your addons though, I am playing completely stock.

I have the same issue. I accidentally stranded a verbal on the Mun, and later sent a probe to go pick her up. On the way I thought "hey, might as well pick up that contract as well, and get a Mun rock."

She picked up the rock and made it safely back to Kerbin. The rock was shown in my research summary, but the contract was never completed.

I have two theories: 1) it was because I picked up the contract after I had already sent a Kerbal out on a mission (like how you have to build new satellites for missions)
Or 2) the stone was turned into research before the contract could look at it.
