Low FPS on planets with Astronomer's Visual pack installed, high end machine
I reckon this might actually be "normal" with a mod that overhauls the game's graphics in such a significant way, but I installed AVP today (Thread on KSP-Forums: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/160878-ksp-173-astronomers-visual-pack-v382-endgame/) and while on the pad and when entering back into a planets atmosphere etc, the performance tanks quite a bit.

I'm running the game with the following specs:

i9-9900k @stock
nvidia rtx2080 @1080p
16gb of ddr4-3200 ram

Did something go wrong during installation or is it normal for FPS to drop into the low 20s with this mod installed, even on highend rigs?

Thanks :)

8 core CPU is likely the issue, KSP is heavily CPU bound, and single core primarily due to physics calculations.

Does Astronomers come with Scatterer? Prolly the worst offender performance wise.

Thank you for the answer. Yes, it does come with Scatterer. So I guess i just have to deal with the bad performance during launching and landing sequences?

Just get rid of Scatterer, personally I don't really care for how it looks even.

However, you can also try playing with your max Delta physics time in the main menu options.

Or there is a mod called better time warp I think? It will let you lower the speed of the game, which will improve FPS. (Basically same thing Delta physics time does but even more so, and manually.)

As far as I know, Scatterer is a required dependency for running the Visual Pack linked in the opening post, so I'm not sure I can just get rid of it without disabling the whole visual pack. I'll see what I can do. Thanks, again.

Its just a mod like any other, you can add or remove it separately.

I can't see why anything else in the pack would need it, but then again I've never used said pack.

Not a problem, good luck.

Grab a different pack from avp. Guessing you grabbed the 8k. Try a lower res. I myself am also running avp with about 80 other mods on a

i7 6700k no oc
32gb of ram
1070

Runs beautiful. Dont know the exact pack I grabbed. But I still get 50 fps on kerbin. Yes all my settings are maxed out also.

I grabbed the 4k package actually, I'll try the 2k I guess.

Hope it helps. If not might be something else

Just downloaded some visual mods and my FPS tanked as well. GTX 1080 I7-9700K

Visual mods will kill fps. I've learned to deal with it for now. I have a studder since I've install some but I just get through it. It only bad while I'm near kerbin

Turn off Reflective Refresh rate. You won't hit your max FPS but I went from 13 to 55 at launchpad. getting solid 120 fps in space
