I am so angry with the news of KSP2
Years ago, I invested in this indie title, thinking that ONE DAY, it will have better planet and terrain graphics, multiplayer and major QoL improvements...

Through out these years, I spent thousands of hours, tried out hundreds of mods, countless saves and terrabytes of backups between updates...

How naive I was... Dedicating all that time, reading and researching all kinds of forums, supporting the game whereever I go and such...

Just to see, that the developers collected all their statistics and data all these years, learned what people want to see in the game... and instead of making THIS game what it should have been in the first place, release all the good stuff under a totally new title called KSP 2!

How naive I was, thinking that THIS title alone, would go on forever, getting better and better...
Of course the capitalism and milking the consumers would take over at some point and it did.

I mean... Congratulations on expanding the dev team from 2 people to tens of people... Congrats on almost rewriting the whole game from scratch... and most importantly congratulations on listening to what people want and trying to implement them...

But I am so angry... Mostly to myself, for being so naive... I wouldn't be this angry if things were released as paid DLCs... But moving on to a new title angers me in way i can't describe... To me, it's like giving up on and abandoning the project you had in hand and just moving on to new money maker... And you guessed it; with a triple of the original price...

I mean I totally understand it, that the machine needs oil... Company is getting bigger and bigger... etc..

Am I not excited? Of course I am!
Will I stop loving and supporting the original KSP? Of course not...
Won't I buy the new game? I don't know, I probably will, at some point...

As I said, I can't describe how I feel right now, but I feel like... Abandoned...
The only gesture I can think of, which could ease my pain, would be a possible discount for the new title, to those who already own the original one...

Other than that, I can only say that I feel like being dumped by my lover...

ok but idk how long you can expect a single game to go on with yearly small dlcs and the initially small price that a very large part of its playerbase has (along with the promise of free dlcs to them)

it's not like SCS over there, releasing DLCs every 3-6 months, that everybody wants, with sponsorships from real trucking companies and etc

Wow lol. You got thousands of hours of enjoyment out of the game, ungrateful much?

KSP is almost a decade old, it was time for a sequel. How long do you expect them to support and update a game for? 20 years?

Also, you do know it's being made by an entirely different studio, not Squad right? For someone who cares so much about it, you're not terribly well informed.

The first public version of KSP was released in 2011, more than eight years ago. The only other game I can think of that has had that type of longevity is Minecraft. As someone else mentioned, the modding community should applaud a final version of KSP. That way they can prefect and expand their projects without worrying that all of their hard work will get broken with the next update.

OK I edited it. :-p You can see a bit of game play in this video.

Wall of text translator engaged;

Translation - "I paid a cheapskate amount for an indie game and thought it made me special. Now I am going to complain because my cheapskate payment has jack to do with the new game they are making. So instead of being an adult and waiting on a new title instead I will whine on a forum about it."

You got what you paid for with KSP.

Also, KSP 1 has or is getting all these things.

The next update is adding *drum roll* better planet and terrain graphics! There are two mods that add multiplayer; Dark and Luna. Major QOL improvements have been added since day one and continue to be added, I mean we just got stock Dv not that long ago, and precise maneuvers.

You are the most ill-informed complainer I've seen yet. If you care about KSP so much, if you're so dedicated, if it means SO much to you; ..why don't you follow the news on it more closely?

Half of that time is setting up scenes and shooting videos, the other half is loading screen...
Also, why not tens of thousands of hours but just be happy with thousands?
When I buy a game, I always imagine that someday my children could play them too...

And no, I didn't know they sold the rights to a totally different company. But even if so, it still the same.

There are many titles out there which are still the same project and got huge throughout the years.
But yes, one of the good things that may come out of this situation is that, IF the modders choose to do one last push and make everything compatible one LAST time, that would be awesome. Because mods breaking with every update was the main reason that kept me away from this game for a long time. Although I doubt that every modder will update their mods and not just move on to the KSP 2.

You actually did. Sorry for the inconvenience if there are any...

ALSO:
I saw footprints in the trailer!
If KSP 2 comes with terraforming and "permenant" footsteps, rover tracks etc, on the planet surfaces... I will have no problem with buying the new product.

Years ago I wrote this as a wishlist on the official forums; for me biggest joy of space exploration is leaving traces of being there.. Since multiplayer is coming... It would be awesome for us to see other's footsteps and tracks on planet surfaces...
It would be one small step for us but a giant step for the game...

First of all mods don't count as the main game... I already said that I tried out 100's of mods, why, because the game lacked those features...

And I have been away from this game for a good while, and didn't keep up with the news, why? Because of mods! Because that they kept breaking and I had to wait for them to be updated with every update and so on...

I just saw the KSP 2 trailer today on Youtube, totally by chance... And these are how I feel.

The point is, you may not agree with me, but I shared what I felt... You don't have to keep answering if you do not agree, or at least understan with how I feel.

to say the least: as was said - the game is already 8 years old. they are even using a better engine version, as far as i understood, with easier modding options without packing and unpacking so much stuff. it was more than time for ksp to get a worthy sequel. and who would press you to buy it, if you're so angry about it? i am sure not everyone will be able to afford the game on the spot. so many will still play ksp 1 and there will still be a lot of modding demands. and yeah, maybe one day you CAN see your kids play the game. who knows?
it will always be in your library- so what?

While I empathize with the OP, I can't agree with the logic. I purchased KSP five years ago and have over 2000 hours in game. If KSP had been a full-priced game, I would have gotten my money's worth many times over. In fact, I am quite pleased they are going to KSP 2, as the next iteration will allow for gameplay well-beyond what KSP can currently do by making changes to the game at the very base level of its coding.

I remember when the original XCOM game out back in 1994. I still occasionally take it out for a spin around the block. I bought the re-imagined XCOM when it came out in 2012. I also still play that on occasion, as there are gameplay elements and modded scenarios that I still enjoy playing. But when XCOM 2 came out a "mere" 4 years later, I bought it without hesitation and have nearly 500 hours in game, so clearly I don't regret that decision.

So, @Erke, I hear you, as others clearly do. But you don't have to stop playing and enjoying KSP just because KSP 2 has been announced. There's a lot of time between now and its anticipated release. And let's be honest, if KSP 2 is as good as KSP was when it came out, we will happily hand over our money for another 2000 or so hours of launching and exploding rockets. Until then, I've just restarted a career from scratch with a couple of new mods to join my old stable, and couple fewer than I used to rely on. What do you say, race to the Mun? :Khappy:

Well, thank you so much, for a moment I thought they were trolls assigned by the company, your action proves otherwise.

It is good to know that some official eyes are on this topic, so thanks again.

As I mentioned in my original post; I will most probably buy the sequal anyways. I just hope that it doesn't turn into one of those situations where the companies release the game with half the features and sell the rest, most important key features later.

What I mean by that is, for example, "robotics" was one of the most downloaded mods, which contributed so much into the game. I was also semi-angry to see that they released it as a paid DLC, when there was still a mod out there which did the same job. Also, it was cheap in dollars but not in our currency (15 dollars = 60 liras).

But I saw that they created a whole new keyframe interface for it, which was exciting and was different from the mod. So at the end I totally supported the idea.

IF, for example, this feature is not already included in KSP 2 as vanilla main game and they once again release it as a paid extra DLC, I will very much suspect their good intentions of moving forward. Because it is already coded and it already generated revenue. So in my oppinion it should be included in KSP 2.

Things like these, will either ease my pain and make me glad to support and buy the product once again, OR will make people like me furious further more...

I hope you can see my point.

PS: I would very much love to see myself, tutoring my children and even grand children, on how to play.

As I said, it's probably all about my naiveness. May be I kept my expectations way too high. May be I imagined their roadmap way broader and faster.

I still love the game, it's one of it's kind. And I won't forget the good times I had with it, even with my friends, using multiplayer mods.

And please don't get me wrong, I am also very pleased that KSP is moving forward and getting better. I just hope that it doesn't turn into a moneymilking machine.

I can easily pay even quadruple the price, for once and for free further updates. But when it turns into a cheap releasing price and countless DLCs with the same price after that, just gives me the coldfeet...

I'm sure you understand what I mean, in this day and age. I am a mid-aged gamer myself and when people like me see, bigger companies buying smaller titles it reminds us of all the horrible examples out there. And all we see is rotating grinds of capitalism, with blood-rusted sharp edges...

But as I said KSP is one of it's kind and certainly made it's mark in the gaming industry and history. So with titles like these, the expectations of users, gamers and supporters rise higher and higher... And when companies get bigger and bigger like this, they should start planing a prestigious social responsibility agendas.

For example somebody on the KSP 2 forums posted this and I totally agree;
https://steamcommunity.com/app/954850/discussions/0/1635291505037435705/#c1635291505041641468

If that was the case, I would even pay ten times the price, just to support their endeavour.

When you watch the developer diaries, the team already admits they're taking their job seriously, attending serious science seminars and NASA meetings etc.
And you can see in their eyes that they're not bad people, they know what makes KSP special and what it can contribute to people's lives. Most importantly you can see the love for their work in their eyes and they don't look like money-thirsty-monsters... At least not yet...

And I can only hope that it stays like that.....

As for your kind invitation for a race to the Mun; I was going to keep my hands off of KSP until the 1.8 update, but who knows when will that arrive... So I might meet you =) I'm adding you to my list for further planning on this subject.

And thank you @eightiesboi, @everest.piek both for your contribution to this topic.

You can feel how you want to feel and that is okay. No worries there. However, this is how I feel about a lot of games, but most games have a 1 to 2 year life before updates stop and a sequel rolls out. This game has given me a ton for the what, 12 bucks I spent on it? I have spent 1,600 + hours playing this. That is paying 0.0075 dollars an hour of play. I mean, going to the movies is way more expensive, and there have been games I have bought for 60 dollars only to find out it is unfinished with a year road map that will get the game up to fully finished, but they announce a sequel before then to just repeat over and over. I think KSP2 will last a good long time. I can see additional star systems in DLC. I don't mind spending the money on the sequel, because if that does well, we will start seeing more games like this, and less of the copy paste shooters, etc...

Well, you are right and of course game already gave me good memories for what it's worth...
I think it's just that I was expecting these updates on top this one, long time ago... Not on a sequal.

But anyways, I just hope that they don't abuse this and it turns out to be great... Then I will have no problem.

Thank you for your comment.
