You sure it's asking for less than 100km, and not 100m?
(disclaimer: It's been 2 or more years since I did the tutorials).
You mean speeding up. When you fire thrusters while retrograde oriented to an object moving faster than you, you are speeding up to reduce the difference in speed between you and the object.
Doing it right wasn't the problem for me. I did it correctly, over and over, and the simplicity has nothing to do with the problem. The tutorial simply won't move forward past that point.
I have yet to try the mission without altering the node...
What I found to be the solution:
- Do as before, burn and get on the same route as before, and when you're about 100km away, create a new node where you adjust prograde and radial until you're on the almost the same route as the asteroid. It might flight pass you, but it shouldn't be to hard to keep up with it. When I did this, the mission updated, and I got new instructions. TBH, I just did the same as the rendezvous mission, and could get straight to the asteroid. It stops when you are near the asteroid, but still haven't grabbed it.
So it seems like you have to get close, AND adjust orbit for the tutorial to continue.
- A tip from a YouTube video I saw, which adds to the rendezvous explaination, is to adjust with RCS/engine so that the target and prograde symbols lines up, that way you will never overshoot. For some reason the tutorials doesn't explain this, but rather tells you to stop and correct the heading towards target.
