KIS/KAS Issue moving smaller part from a ship in orbit

I have been building a ship in Orbit and wanted to remove a Clamp-O-Tron port from a section, While hovering over the port it highlights green like normal when I go to click it the entire ship highlights and tells me it too heavy by 14t (tons) ... a clamp o tron is not 14 tons...it keeps forcing me to select entire ship whats going on here ? I need this part off to continue work.

Is the docking port the root part of your ship? If so, it may be looking at removing the ship from your docking port, rather than vice versa. You might have better luck disconnecting the part the port is attached to.

It may be im not sure. I built this station up pretty big and so far this is the only part thay has given me this trouble. I'm new to the mod and its been pretty frustrating. I've attached un attached re attached parts and this one Clamp is a wrench in the gear...probably just going send up another module.

So to confirm, you have the electric drill equipped, you hold X and click the part, it then says too heavy? Have you switched to the ship whilst in eva and selected a command module, right clicked, click "control from here" and then try again? Also check auto-struts set to root part are changed to something else.

A wrench will work, and make sure you're hovering over port. Not the ship. And you physically can't detach a ship in space. Does the port have anything on it? Remove it. Attach a ladder nearby so you can easily connect and disconnect.
