Transparent Screen of nothingness [Game won't start]
Hey so today I bought this game in hopes of having a grand ol' time but whenever I try to play it all that happens is I get a transparant window appearing and nothing else... After waiting about 5 minutes music will usually start to play... And after about 30 minutes I usually grow tired of boredom and find something else to play.

I've tried verifying steam cache, tried reinstalling, tried deleting settings.cfg, tried updating drivers (Whoops, missed one for GTX 1070...) Don't have any virtual bs like hamachi messing about, tried turning firewall and anti-virus off completely... Frankly I'm at a loss.

I have all the system specs required to play this game...

Anyone got any ideas as to what the issue here could be?

- Cheers.

You've done everything i can think of suggesting so i'd contact support.

I assume your game is running on the GTX card and not your other one or something silly.

Have you tried launching the game directly from the directory and not Steam? Sometimes that works for similar issues.
And have you tried running an older version of the game?

These could at least be temp fixes.

Find the KSP.log and copy it's contents to https://pastebin.com/

You could also do the same for the output_log.txt but make sure you use the right file for the binary you ran. There's two seperate folders (and subsequently files) for 32 and 64 bit versions of the game.

Okidoke, here's the KSP.log

https://pastebin.com/raw/wvtHPjUG

And here's the Output_log.txt

https://pastebin.com/raw/Bug4LkpV

Thanks for taking a looksie!

So, it crashes when it loses your GPU it seems, well, it loses it then establishes a connection again, then crashes. Are you tabbing away from KSP? From memory, it really doesn't like that.

What I would do for now, since the log implies you have never actually got in to the game is find the launcher.exe in the games install and run that. There's a gear icon down the bottom of the window where you can set some game options. Configure the game for 1920 x 1080 with fullscreen enabled and see if it helps.

Edit: Actually, looking closer, I don't think that's the right output_log.txt. You want the one from the "KSP_x64_Data" folder if you are launching 64 bit or "KSP_Data" if you are running the 32 bit version.

Hey lad, thanks for trying to help. Been away for a couple of days so couldn't get back to ya-

Whenever I try launching from the Launcher.exe I get an instant Crash Log show up as

https://pastebin.com/1GvUZSpm

As far as the output_log... Well, there isn't any output log in the KSP_x64_data folder or in the KSP_data folder. The only place the Output_log shows up is in the Launcher_Data folder... Is that unorthodox?

Edit: There was however another output_log in the error-folder, adding that too...

/Cheers

If you are hearing music, the game has loaded to the start menu.

Try <ALT> F12 and see if the debug menu shows.

Since you said you just got the game it's not likely but it could be MODS if you have any installed.

There are some mods that modify the graphics of the start menu.
Most planet packs replace the start menu with their planets graphics, if you also have KAS/KIS installed it will try to add backpacks and stuff to the backs of the start menus Kerbals.

KAS/KIS and some other mod trying to change the start menus graphics usually ends up giving me a black screen with music.

But you are saying that you are getting a TRANSPARENT screen? is your desktop showing when the music starts playing?

Try an <ALT> <TAB> and see if the KSP shows up as a choice for you (The system MAY have switched tasks for some reason and dropped KSP to the taskbar) switch to it and see what happens.

There's no mods according to one of the logs...

Mod DLLs found: Stock assembly: Assembly-CSharp v0.0.0.0 Stock assembly: KSPSteamCtrlr v0.0.1.35 Stock assembly: Steamworks.NET v9.0.0.0 / v9.0.0 Folders and files in GameData: Stock folder: Squad

...this is rather strange but I've got a vague memory of someone having an issue that looked like they were running out of RAM (which the error.log above does too) but there's no way they could be. Going to try and dig out what their solution was.

Edit: Sadly, this was on Win 10 but who knows...they did many things then found this randomness somewhere else...

I finally found the fix that fixed my game, i can now play it again, found this on the breach and clear support page, it was written from one of the developers of the breach and clear game.

"This looks like a common issue with Unity games (it happens to Kerbal Space Program and Hearthstone) - two fixes I could find that may be applicable (maybe) - I haven't verified these yet.

Potential fix #1:
1. Open the Start Menu, type cmd, right click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
2. Enter the command del C:\Windows\Fonts\UNCL.ttf and press Enter.
3. Attempt to run Breach & Clear again.

Potential fix #2:
1. Try running Breach & Clear with the -force-gfx-st startup option.

Let me know if either of these work. Full disclosure, I got these solutions from the Kerbal Space Program forums so I have no idea if they'll work for Breach & Clear. As far as I can tell we're experiencing a very similar issue."

What language is your windows set to use? I noticed in the crash log that there are some non-english strings so I'm wondering if it's a bug that is related to the relatively recent translation work. Which would at least explain why not everyone has the same problem.

In steam, right click on KSP and choose properties, go to the language tab, and try running KSP with the language set to English and see if that helps. If it's not already set that way.
Knarrwinkel Aug 14, 2017 @ 2:23pm
You KSP.log says your game is version 1.3 while your output.log says it's using Unity 5.2, which was used in game version 1.1.

Wait so... You're saying steam downloaded the wrong Unity engine version for the game? o.O

Also...

This is what I mean by it looking Transparant. It looks like this.

Other than that, I've tried deleting the weird fonts (Were none to delete) and running the game with the forced startup commands... Neither have worked.

Appreciative of your help guys, thank you very much.

Oooh yeah, and it's set to English by default, nice observation though!

.

So, on this subject, the launcher is built in an older version of Unity it seems. This is the opening line from my launcher output_log...

Initialize engine version: 5.2.4f1 (98095704e6fe)

This is the opening line from an output_log found in the data folders...

Initialize engine version: 5.4.0p4 (b15b5ae035b7)

Incidently, this is partly how I noticed there was something amiss with the output_log you posted. Have you ever tried launching the game directly from the KSP_x64.exe in your install, not through Steam?
Sandman Aug 14, 2017 @ 3:03pm
Aye, same occurance when I try to start it straight from the KSP_x64.exe.
Manwith Noname Aug 14, 2017 @ 3:06pm
Can you try replacing your settings.cfg with mine?

Edit:

Link removed.
