I put so many drogue parachutes on I could land without a main chute, is this normal
I always stick like, 4+ radial mount ones on the basic command module in addition to my main parachute. I'm pretty sure I could land without deploying a main parachute at this point I have so many, is this normal? Do you do this?

The basic Mk1 Command pod only needs 1 basic Mk Parachute to land safely.

I tend to put a basic parachute and a basic drogue parachute on it just for a little extra issurance.

But yeah...that many parachutes is pure overkill.

Are parachutes seriously that heavy that you have to worry about them?
Eh, I suppose I haven't gotten to the point where weight is super important yet then because I usually put four drogue chutes on to deploy early and then cut them once the main parachute deploys.

Every little bit helps.

No reason to carry a bunch of extra parachutes that literally aren't doing anything for you.

I've certainly scraped my way back home with less then a handfull of DeltaV so...yeah, it's fair to say at some point you may find yourself just shy of your destination due to that little bit of extra weight...and "just shy" in space may as well be on the other side of the universe.

That feel when you run out of fuel with a 70.1km Pe :ksad:

Then have that crazy kerbal get out and push. I find the Poodle engine nozzle is perfectly shaped for a kerbals helmet to fit inside while using the jetpack, just leave enough fuel so you can get back in the ship.

Done it myself many times with smaller missions, escape pods with data etc... Not so effective when you're flying a deep space mission returning from another planet and are set to pass Kerbin on an escape trajectory at approximately 10km/s (funnily enough my crew never returned from that mission).
