Re-entry of service bay?
I decided to play KSP after a long time, and found that I have a problem with re-entry. I can return a capsule, ok, but I have service bay unlocked, and there should be a way to return it from orbit! But if I stick it beneath a capsule, my CM becomes above CD, and capsule rotates pointy end forward... finishing with a spectacular speed. Keeping service bay pointig forward is possible, but requires uncanny piloting. I had success with keeping empty tanks for inital stabilisation... not a pretty reentry.
So, how is it supposed to work? I'm low-tech at the moment.

try putting 2 goo canisters as close to the pointy end as possible... almost like a pair of fins, that should work

Try a heat shield.
You saw the right problem. Its balance. Heat shields are pretty heavy and may offset that.

^That. Heat shields also provide a round surface for the air to glide over. The service bay has a flat bottom and zero aerodynamics so the atmostphere is going to shove it around looking for a better option.
Can I see this rocket?

I messed this up too, multiple attempts and my little Valentina was toast. Ended up re-entering with the service bay open - still going nose first but you get more drag i guess. Changed the chute to max altitude, max pressure and was able to deploy it under 1000m.
