If you even checked (which you didn't) all the mission locations are tagged on your "Map" screen. It'll show you which place it is.
But ofcourse around any body the more you get to your geostationary point the less the gravity mean something.
One could perhaps approach the point at a lower altitude then burn
retro surface till 0
point radial out surface
burn outwards climb till you reach an altitide where you neither fall back to kerbin or see the altitude increase. But that would be time consuming and tedious. So better lookup what that altitude actually is.
kerbin Synchronous orbit 2 863.33 km http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Kerbin
mun Synchronous orbit 2 970.56 km http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Mun
minmus Synchronous orbit 357.94 km http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Minmus
So if I ever had to do it again I probably approach the point at lower altitude burn retro surface then radial out then climb out to the right altitude then stop the craft to 0.0 m/s and then see if it stays there.
The mun sunchronous orbit seemed high
mun Synchronous orbit 2 970.56 km http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Mun
better check the size of the SOI
Sphere of influence 2 429 559.1 m http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Mun
as I suspected ..... these numbers must mean you can not set up a geostationary satellite at the mun. I had a creepy feeling it was so.
But since I set up one at minmus it must be doable.
minmus Synchronous orbit 357.94 km http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Minmus
minmus Sphere of influence 2 247 428.4 m http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Minmus
if I am not too tired here the number says it is doable.
1. circularize the orbit to make it geostationary
2. end up in wrong spot
2a. target is ahead of me
2a1. drop periapsis while maintaining your apoapsis- this will make you orbit faster
2a2. check when at apo - line up the target with satellite and it should be in the middle of whatever you orbit
2a3. circularize your orbit
2b. target is behind me - basically invert everything above
2b1. increase apoapsis while maintaining your periapsis - makes you orbit slower
2b2. check when at periapsis
2b3. circularize
3. ez money
You want to keep part of your orbit aligned and drop/increase the other side to catch up or wait for the target below. It's quite generous with what it accepts and few reloads or small incremental changes if playing hardcore.
2 year necro.
