What I would say is this, do you want the badge? In the bigger picture, do you want the features that Valve locks out of the Steam client based on level?
The item rewards for badges like emoticons and such are cheaper to get if you just use the steam market and get the ones you know you want, if you so desire having to pay for emoticons.
Sometimes you can earn coupons from crafting badges, on completely random games, and most often they are for forgotten indie card farming trash games that exist simply to be worth less than the cost of a pack of trading cards so that people buy them, regardless of how bad the games are, to level up their account and potentially profit making a few cents more than what is spent on the game.
During Holiday Events you can earn event cards from crafting badges, which personally I find the only time really worth crafting badges. The cards are sometimes worth a decent amount to justify completing badges if you have majority of the cards already. Sometimes you can profit or make back some of the cost you put into leveling your account. The last Winter Sale event had poor value on the event cards however.
Lastly, if again you are someone who likes showing off your profile and think it has any value or meaning to you, then some people collect badges to have them on their profile.
Generally speaking I find badges a waste of time except when I manage to find a way to make profit off of them, but the time spent on playing the Steam Market for cards could be better spent working for someone in real life. It's nice to make free cents back on your purchases but it takes a lot of investment to make back even a few bucks.
I think you sent the wrong person your English Essay... I wasn't asking if it was worth it, I don't care. I just wanted to know from people who had it if they think I should go for it for the XP.
Decide for yourself. But if you want to see how it looks, take a look at my profile, normal (max level) and foil included ;)

Im not using the badge anymore though, but i used the backdrops for quite some while.
Dont know if it is worth it by XP per money or something. Being active and with KSP being my by far most frequently played game go figure how i got it. I didnt see any difference in XP between KSP or other games like warframe. 100 per level flat.
