Question about using the 1.32 Point Release patch
From what I know, the Quake 3 Steam version executable was modified so that the game only runs when launched from Steam. This had the side-effect of breaking compatibility with custom server browsers.

However, from what I read, patching the 1.32 Point Release patch makes the Quake 3 executable standalone again, so that it doesn't need Steam to run (and fixes the problem with custom server browser compatibility.)

I have two questions:

1 - Can Quake 3 be launched from Steam if the 1.32 patch is applied? Will Steam still track game time and show to friends that you are playing the game?

2 - Will you get in trouble if you modify the Quake 3 executable with the 1.32 patch? Can Valve put a ban on your account or something if they see you messing around with a game's exe. file?
