No intro video or cutscenes

So I decided to get the Quake Collection to get my old friends back. And what a treat!

I applied the config fix to get widescreen 1920x1080 and disabled the Steam overlay. I also installed point release 1.32. I also gave the exe file admin rights, and set it to run XP SP3 compatability mode. Everything is working fine except one thing.

The video for the intro and for the tier cutscenes play, and I hear sound, but there is no video. Is this a normal side effect of large custom widescreen resolutions? It works fine with standard resolutions.

Is there a fix?

I searched the forums and googled, but no one else seems to be having this problem...

I have the exact same problem, can't watch them from the cinematics menu either.

Yeah, I did some more research on this, because I am stubborn like that. There is no fix. Basically the problem is as follows. The cutscenes are in 4:3 format. The built in player does not understand widescreen. Thus, while it is techically feasible to solve this problem, the Q3A code has no way to deal with it. The videos are on youtube. So I watched them there.

there is also another way to see movies - open pak0.pk3 file (which is located in quake3\baseq3 folder) with archiver program (7zip for example) and find folder "video", then extract it and watch movies with VLC player.

Or use the Spearmint port of q3 engine. It can do at least 720p with working cutscenes

or you can have a look at ioquake, run it with the pak files and all videos work
