Type in the console:

This setting can be modified via the q3config.cfg, find the string 'seta cg_fov' and change the value to '115' for example. This value happens to look reasonable for widescreen. To run Q3A in widescreen you must make further changes to the q3config.cfg. Find the string 'seta r_customwidth' and set it to the native width of your monitor. Find the string 'seta r_customheight' and set it to the native height of your monitor. Lastly, find the string 'seta r_mode' and set it to to '-1'.

Does anyone try to modify the config file, save their work, and than get no result in game?

you have to encapsulate the numbers in quotation marks, I tried doing just bare numbers and it didn't work

for example
seta cg_fov "130"
If anyone still had issues trying to set it while in the main menu, or cant find the FOV prompt in the config files, just load up a SP match and type into the console "/cg_fov X"
