$20 for quake 3? but its open source....

iD released Quake 3 as open source way back in 2005 and even allowed you to download it from their site for free. I noticed its $20 on steam but has been free for the past 10 years.

it's the engine that went open source not the game itself , what it's mean is that you can freely use quake III source code to make your own game ... but quake III itself is still copyright contents that belong to Id softwares and they can pretty much sale it at the price they want.

You still can't justify the price of $19.99 considering just how old Quake 3 is, and how cheap UT is compaired to it.

but you can't really claim that the game should be free just because that the source code that was used to make it is now free.

when in reality it"s the ID tech 3 (the game engine) that was made free 10 years ago https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Id_Tech_3

while I agree that 20$ is too much there is no reason of why Quake III should be completly free.
